waterloo police have a person in custody this morning after a standoff that lasted several hours. it happenenear ridgeway avenue and sheridan road around 6 o'clock last night. that's a residential area just south of byrnes park. the person inside was threatening to hurt himself. shortly after midnight, the lice department's swat team went in and arrested him. officials took him to the hospital. no officers were hurt during the standoff. fire investigators believe a fire that destroyed a home in rural dubuqucounty was acacdental. the sheriff's office and several area fire departments responded to 18505 south mound road around 3:15 saturday afternoon that's between rickardsville and ddrango. no one was hurt. but the home is a total loss. a global manhunt is underway for a man connected to the paris attacks. 129 people died - hundreds more are huhut. french officials believe he is one of three brothers accused of carrying out

o'malley also stopped in cedar falls yesterday afternoon. iowa polls have surged in clinton's'sfavor in recent weeks, widening her lead over vermont senator bernie sanders. she focused her speech yesterday on foreign policy amid the paris attacks. coralville public library at 1:30 this afternoon. according to hacap there are over 56 thousand food-insecure individuals in their service area. a plunge into chilll water raised thhsands of dollars for the iowa special olympics. polar plungers dressed in their best costumes for the dip in dubuque on saturday. two sheriffs deputies from dubuque county - nd an experienced diver - made sure everyone made it in and out of the water safely. every year, the dubuque law enforcement center surprises friends and family with their costumes. all together, the polar plunge raised 23#thousand dollars. a quilting group is getting ready to bring warmth to kids at the u-i hospitals and clinics' pediatric oncology unit. lois ludvigson has led the group "in god arms" since 2009. the group works with donated quilting materials. this weekend, it laid out about 100 handmade quilts at holy trinity lutheran church in north liberty. ludvigson says her group will deliver the quilts to the children this
