new this morning... someone hit a house with gunfire this morning around 3 a-m in waterloo. police responded to a house in the 200 block of reed street. no one was hurt, and police are still investigating. a man faces a first degree murder charge this morning after he fatally stabbed another man. this all happened at a motel on the outskirts of cedar rapids. the linn county sheriff's office says 47 year old michael lehman stabbed 23 year old jimmi- jon lint several times during a fight. it happened at the ced-rel motel, which is a few miles west of cedar rapids on highway 30. around 12:30 a-m yesterday, law officers found lint lying on the floor of a room with several stab wounds. he died later at a hospital. sheriff's deputies arrested lehman in another room at the motel. a man is in police custody after authorities

say he broke into a home and severely beat a woman in elkader last week. police say 24-year-old brandon thoma broke into the home after the woman's husband left for work last tuesday. they say he then repeatedly punched and kicked the woman. police say she went to the hospital but have not released her condition. thoma is in custody in wisconsin and is awaiting extradition to iowa on an attempted murder charge. police believe the attack was not random. this raymond man is awaiting sentencing for driving under the influence of prescription drugs in a deadly crash last year. the waterloo- cedar falls courier reports 30-year-old joshua dunt pleaded guilty to a vehicular homicide charge yesterday. dunt was driving in the 66-hundred block of la porte road near washburn last october when he crossed the center line. he crashed head on into another vehicle. 20-year-old warren van wie of cedar falls and his passenger went to the hospital. van wie later

a company in dyersville is looking at tens of thousands of dollars in damage after a semi truck crashed into the building. these are pictures from the business, faust millwork and cabinetry. the business says a driver nearby forgot to set the brake on his semi, and the truck rolled into the faust showroom yesterday morning. no one was hurt, and faust is still open for business. starting today, the cedar rapids school district will hold community conversation s about new grading practices. the district is implementing standards based grading. it eliminates traditional grades in favor of measuring students based on specific skills they should know for each class. the first of seven meetings is tonight from 5:30 to 7 at the metro economic alliance. the public is invited. to see the full list of meetings, go to the newslinks section of kcrg dot com. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. the iowa utilities board has started its next set of hearings over a proposed

pipeline that would cut through the state. this week, the three member board will listen to representatives from dakota access. that's the company that wants to build an oil pipeline that would stretch from north dakota to illinois. the board also plans to hear from landowners the pipeline would affect. last week, more than 200 people, both for and against the project, spoke before the board. marion is preparing for a potential new hotel in the heart of the community. while it's still a work in progress, the city says the plan is to build a multi- million dollar hotel. g-l-d properties owns and will develop the land at 2823 seventh avenue. the city just got the results back from a market study saying it could support a 100-room hotel. the study also looked at the hotel having a meeting space and a restaurant. " what they've concluded is with the growth in the metro area that it would take only a couple of years to

rooms based on a 100 room facility." marion currently has one motel and two hotels, but this would be the first full hotel in the heart of the community. pluckhahn says construction could start as early as next summer. this morning, raids and arrests continue in europe after the attacks in paris that killed at least 129 people. and the french continue to launch airstrikes against the islamic state in syria. french president francois hollande wants to have a state of emergency for three months to detain and deport suspected terrorists easier. president hollande also wants the united states and russia to work together to defeat isis. the u-s said it's committed to fighting terror, but it's unclear if it will work with russia. an intense international manhunt is under way for 26-year old salah abdeslam. he is believed to be connected to the paris attacks. new this morning-- russian authorities say the crash of the passenger plane in egypt

the head of russia's fsb security service told president vladimir putin that a homemade explosive device blew up on the plane. all 224 people on board the plane-- most of them russian tourists--wer e killed in the oct. 31 crash. iowa governor terry branstad has ordered all state agencies to halt any future efforts to resettle syrian refugees in the state. this comes after several u-s governors have pledged to keep refugees out of their states completely. he called the isis threat a "serious situation," and asked the federal government to work with the state of iowa. the iowa united nations association hopes terrorism concerns don't turn into backlash against refugees. "it's what allows us to thrive as a country. so, to try to block altogether the movement of refugees, i think is probably not only unrealistic, but also contrary to our national interests." " the national u-n association has called for

move. that's where the compassion fund stepped in. rebecca ness is a proud mom.her little boy beau is just eight weeks old. but, he's actually more like two. beau was born six weeks early. a very scary situation. "he stayed in the nicu for 32 days. he was in the nicu so long because he couldn't get the suck swallow motion. that's what they develop later in the pregnancy, which he wasn't in me for."beau is doing great these days, but, while he was getting healthy, rebecca had to leave her job to help. meanwhile hospital bills emptied the couple's account. a big problem seeing as they were crammed into a tiny room at a family member's house. "it was a single bedroom. literally, my mother-in-law's. it was a bedroom, barely enough for our bed." that's where the compassion fund comes in. rebecca says it helped with all sorts of things. beau's crib, his clothes and moving expenses,

which allowed the family to get out of the bedroom and into this new place. the fund works very simply. it gives social workers and care providers a no-red-tape way to help fill gaps of need. "the compassion fund was built to have a debit card in their possession, that's attached to this compassion fund, where they can go at any point of time and go get cash and give it to the family."for beau and his family, the fund made dreams come true. he's out of a tiny bedroom and his parents have breathing room to get their finances back on sure footing. triplets without the use of any fertility drugs. that only happens in about point 0-0-4 percent of pregnancies. bridget hogan had three boys tadhg , sean, and cathal on november 3rd. each weighed between three and four pounds. hogan already had a two-year-old son, and says she didn't expect to go from a family of three to six in 35 weeks. she says they're adjusting to providing three times the care. "its been around the clock 24 hour care, bottles every two hours. just eating, changing, dressing, and doing it all over again. " a c-d-c study says in 20-13 there were more than three million births in the united states, and only 119 of those were triplets. the number doesn't include the rare identical factor. the french president says he wants to rid the country and the world of terrorism. france is continuing with airstrikes
