we have more information this morning on a double micide in des moines we told you about yesterday morning. police say a man killed his wife and 16 year old daughter with a gun and then turned it on himself. police were called out the 2400 hundred block of hull avenue in des moines around 7 o'clock on sunday night. they believed 47-year-old barney fraaken killed the two at their home, he's in the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshotwound. police say he shot and killed 42-year-old amy fraaken and 16-year-old amber fraaken. his step son told kcci-tv he believes the shooting is related to the coupls marital problems. " this wasn't fair, this was not justified...ttis was not appropriate...this was just straight up ignorance...and trying to gain self-control from somebody who did't want

the u-s state department says americans should keep an eye out when traveling this week. in a rare move, the department issued a worldwide travel alert for u-s citizens. the travel alertts the result of the recent terrorist attacks in paris that killed 130 people and injured hundreds more. the state department says isis and other terrorist roups continue to plan attacks in multiple egions. it also says the likelihhod of terrorist attacks will continue as members of isis return to their home countries from syria and iraq. french authorities believe one of the people who wasaspart of the papais attacks pooed as a refugee from syria. the fear of other terrorists mixing with refugee groups prompted the u-s house to pass a bill last week that would require more extenssve backgrounn chchks for any syrian or iraqi refugee who applies to come into the u-s. iowa congressman rod blum supported the bill. blumumwas in dubuque yesterday doing a job shadow with paramedics from paramount ambulance service.

held back 772-thousand dollars since mid-september over questions about how the center has spent money. just last week, the ioo attorney general's office called on the board to transfer the funding. the center works with researchers to study alternative energy and the impact of global warming. it operates out of the iowa advanced technology laboratory on campus. this week will be one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, and millions of americans will drive. tha means there could be long waits at auto repair shops. a downtown cedar rapids auto center told many customers that they'll have to wait until friday for repairs. with a lot of people wanting work done before avelling and a short week, some shops are slammed. but it's more than just the thanksgiving impact. the weekend snow and cold reminded drivers it's time to get vehicles ready for winter.
