an abandoned dog is getting a new leash on life and a new job in central iowa. and it's partially thanks to a 5-year-old from ankeny. this week, tristan sommerfeld welcomed the newest member of the ankeny police force. bosco is a 1-year-old lab mix and is ready to sniff out crime in polk county. tristan lped raise money to train bosco and bring him to iowa from a

rescue shelter in indiana. instead of asking for presents on his october birthday, he asked for donations to go to the police department's k-9 fuud. altogether, tristan's friends and family donated more than 15- hundred dollars. "it's paying it forward and gifting to the community and the superheroes we call the police and the fire department and the people that serve. " combined with tristan's donations, the city of ankeny raised 30-thousand dollars to get bosco. police say he's trained to work on missing persons and drug cases. as for tristan, he says he wants to be a police officer when he grows up. as the holiday shopping season truly gets underway today, american say they plan to spend about the same amount. but experts predict more people will spend money on themselves this time around. that's coming up in today's america's money.
