waterloo west junior went for a ke ride on octoberer2nd without a cell phone or his wallet. friends and family hadn't seen him since. dozens of people helped search for sed. they printed and passed out flyers in areas they knew he enjoyed. then the search shifted to some of the trails and lakes in the greenbelt areas along the cedar river. friends say sed was an avid sherman and rode his bike everywhere. one search organizer sayythe family appreciated the support. " especially for the family it provided them with some hope some sense that others were committed to help finding answers it provided them with a lot of strength. " there were no signs of trauma, so the cause of death will depend on lab reports. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. cedar rapids schools say there were inaccuracies in the investigation that found some students, staff and construction workers may have been exposed to asbestos. a d-n-r investigation found there was uncontained asbestos at

earlier this year. the district says renovation work was happening in the area - and that students and staff did not have access to it. the district says it cleaned the area where they found asbestos s d tested the airirfterward. the d-n-r report said the district was initially reluctant to close the school over the summer due to the asbestos problems and in firing the asbestos removal company. the district says it used immediate and appropriate measures to address the situation. the d-n-r is pursuing legal action against the district and the asbestos company it hired, abatememt specialties. two dog trainers are suspended after greyhounds tested positive for a banned substance earlier this year. alicia bushey and jessica hughes - who worked for thth iowa greyhound park in dubuque - both agreed to the more than 30 day suspension with the iowa racing and gaming commission. the banned substance is called ractopamine and increases muscle mass. the commission believes the drug came from dog

five to twenty percent of people across the nation will likely get the flu this year. of those, about 200- thousand will be hospitalized. those are the annual averages according to experts at the cdc. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders joins us live from linn county public healtht& for a closer look at the flu season. forrest, it's actually national influenza immunization week? correct. which is really just fancy words for "getetour flu shot." and doctorsrshink this year's batch will be better than the last. last season, the h-3-n-2 strain showed up which wasn't includein the vaccine. experts estimamad the effectiveness of the shsh was somewhere around 13 to 20 percent. this year, the shot is expected to be a better match, 50 to 60 percent, which is the seasonal average. the cdc rececmends the shot for everyone 6 6 nths or older. they say it's the first, and most important step to

the university of iowa is renaming its information hub for students over complaints about its acronym. iowa student information systems - or isis - is a collection of tools where students can sign up for classes or review financial aid. but the university has received complaints about the name since the terrorist group isis became prominent last year. officials say they are using the opportunity to create a new information system, with a

"on social media there were some students that were expressg concern about googling the name isis trying to find the university of f owa isis, and they didn't likikthe fact that they were typing that name in. " the unirsity of iowa hopes to launch the system m metime next semester. fans had to wait until the very end to see the cyclones narrowly beat the hawkeyes in last night's cross-state rivalry game. the hawkeyes travelele to hilton coliseum for the men's basketball game. and although they haven't won at hilton since 2003, they came out on fire. they led at halftime 49 to 35 with iowa's jarrod uoff getting 30 points in the first lf alone. but iowa state made a comeback in the second half, chipping away at the hawkeyes' lead. with just over 21 seconds left in the game, the cyclone's monte morris made the game winning basket for an 83-82 final score. tv-9 caught up with morris after the game. " the cyclones have won the last two meetings in the cyhawk series. thcyclone women will host the hawkeyes tonight starting at s sen. the ame is on cyclone t-v. one star hawkeye football player is working hard off the field to help kids succeed. running back jordan canzeri has spepe the last several months volunteering with the non-profit organization strive for success. canzeri spends his days off helping kids catch up on spelling and reading. he started volunteering to earn credit for a c css, but says he continued doing it because of how much the kids inspired him. "it's the kids futures and we tell th that all the time, and they laugh, that okay, well even though i don't to do the school work and it needs to be done, well we tell them, don't do it for the teachers, don't do it for anyone else but yourself because this is something that is going to be huge importance later on down the road. a jury has found an ex- oklahoma police officer ilty of assaulting g raping 13 blblk women while on the job. daniel holtzclaw was originally charged with 36 counts, but the jury convicted him on 18 counts yesterday in court. andrew spencer shows us what led up to yesterday's decision.

officer daniel holtzclaw shook nervously as the judge started reading the jury's rdict... ...and increasingly lost his composure as the list of charges continued. "count eight: defendant is guilty of the crime of forcible oral sodomy and punishment is set at 20 years." a jury of eight men and four women deliberated for more than forty hours before finding holtzclaw guilty of rape and sexual battery -- in all, 18 of the 36 charges he faced. outside the courtroom, demonstrators had little sympathy for holtzclaw, who was convicted on his twenty-ninth birthday... "happy birthday to you!"while some of thehe find justice i ithe guilty verdict, others worry about what the punishment will be when holtzclaw is formally sentenced in january. "i'm sure that they're going to try and run it together so he won't see nothing but 30 years, and that's not faiai to us. it's not fair to my daughtete it's not fair to any of the victims or the people of our community."ho ltzclaw was fired from the police department last year, when the allegations surfaced; one woman came forward to accuse him of "sexual impropriety" during a traffic stop. the charges snowballed from there, and he was eventually accused of assauauing or raping 13 women while he was on the job. holtzclaw and members of his family have maintained that he wasn't guilty of those crimes.
