school officials say she was a bright student, involved in sports and fine arts. jacobs put a lot of her time to her center point united methodist church youth programs where her pastor says she will be greatly missed. her friends remember her as a fun and honest person. "anybody in our r mmunity family or friends can come and spend a little time, sometimes people just need to be together and talk and just remember and share stories " "she was honest. she was confident in herself and she could be goofy and she didn't care if anyone thought she was being goofy, cus she's emily." " the church plans to hold a remembrance service tomorrow night at 7 o'clock. it's also hosting a visitation for jacobs on friday from 4 to 8. the funeral will be on saturday morning at 10:30 at center-point urbana high school. a head on crash involving a

sem killed an iowa county man. the iowa state patrol says it happened just befefe 11-30 yesterday morning. troopers say 43-year-old johnny bagwell junior of marengo was driving south on highway 151 about a half mile north of amana. they say he crossed the center line and hit a northbound semi truck. the medical examiner say bagwell died at the scene. the crash closed highway 151 for severahours. terrorism and trump. republican candidates focused on those topics in the last debate of the year. most of the questions focused on/the best way defended his position - banning all muslim visitors and immigrants to the u-s. jeb bush criticized the candidate. ted cruz and marco rubio also got into a tough back and forth. the democratic presidential frontrunner hillary clinton will be talking

that will be at old brick church. then she will go to mason city for another town hall. clinton plans to be there at 5:45. the iowa d-n-r will listen to concerns today about a controversial pipeline that would cross the state. the meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 o'clock tonight in des moines. last month the iowa utilities boardeard from more than 200 people. the board will eventually decide if it will let the company, dakota access, build the pipeline in 18 counties in iowa. the dnr is reviewing the permit application for dakota cess and expects to make a decision later this winter. several cities in eastern iowa are getting loans to help them improve water quality. the money comes from a state program that provides low-interest financing to cities. newhall will get about two point six million dollala to put toward its sewer treatment project. and tama will get more than a million dollars to improve its sewer system. aplington and ryan will also get some money.

of iowa. school administrator s say they don't see any sign of the outbreak slowing down. on november 9th, johnson county public health reported 116 cases of mumps. the vast majority wererbelieved to be at the u-i. just last week, there were 162 cases reported. and as of monday, 196 people reported hahang mumps, 152 of thehewere at u-i. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders joins me at the desk this morning. forrest, have we reached the peak of this? ui officials don't think so. in talks with state health officials, the school says that may be a ways off. the ui has taken measures to fight the outbreak, but as of yet, that effort hasn't shown any impact on the spread of the disease. you can't see it on the sidewalks of campus, but mumps continues to spread at the university of iowa.only a handful of cases showed up at first, back in late september. as of monday, officials confirmed about t 0 had mumps

typically numbers of cases never get anywhere close to that. "in an average year, sometimes you see one e two. the numumrs are very low. a really raraom case here or there, but it doesn't spread."lisa james, the ui's associate director for clinil outreach, said mumps numbers this year are the highest they've been since 2006, when the midwest had a large outbreak of the contagious disease. a couple hundred cases showed up on campus. nat crowd with numbers again inching that direction, the ui fought back in november with free vaccinations. about 48-hundred students got a third measass, mumps and rubella shot at eight clinics spread out across campus. did it help? the shots don't seem to have slowed case numbers as of yet. james hopes that willll happen sometime after students return from christmas break. "no one really knows the right number for herd immunity, which can protect a whole community. we certainly have done a good number of students. but, as you know, our student enrollment is over 30-thousand." mumps is

there's a housing shortage in jackson county, despite a recent drop in population. a recent study examined the housing needs in the cities of maquoketa, bellevue, miles, and preston. the study showed that more single people are living in homes as opposed to entie families. jackson county economic development director dave heiar says the trend stems from an aging population. he says the county needs to do more to attract young families. "if they're going to move to a community, you need to have some quality housing options. " jackson county will consider grants to help renovate and restore old houses and apartments throughout the county. with rivers rising in eastern iowa, cedar rapids has closed a couple of roads. that i iludes otis road along the river, between the cargill plant to prairie creek fishery. creek flooding also closed j street southwest at prairie creek. the cedar river will

several dubuque businesses are helping out after police say someone intentionally drove through the city's veterans memorial plaza.t caused 15-thousand dollars in damage. police say it happened sometime late last friday night or early saturday morning. they say someone drove a dark colored s-u-v through the plaza, knocking over a column and destroying a memorial bench. kerry bowman, the owner of pinot's pallet, said she plans to host a wine and painting event as a fundraiser on february second. all of the proceeds will help pay for security cameras for the veterans plaza. "you know we need to honor and protect this memorial for the people who protected us during troubled times and nowadays. " the dubuque association of independent insurance agents made a donation yesterday to help cover the cost of replacing this bench. that bench honored the memory of two brothers,

a temporary homeless shelter in iowa city has off -- it's full. monday night was the first night the temporary emergency shelter in iowa city. this year the shelter is iide an empty office building. it provides an emergency place for people to stay who can't or won't stay at the city's only other facility for the homeless, the shelter will stay open through mid-march. city leaders in iowa city, coralville, and north liberty will distribute holiday meals to more than four thousand people this week. it's part of "project holiday," a food drive the crisis center of jonson county organizes each year. the food bank coordinator for the crisis center of johnson county says it's important to remember those in need during the holiday season. "when you think about the holiday season one of the first things you think about is food, you know going to your parents house or friends house for that holiday turkey or ham, knowing that we're able to help other have that experience and share that joy of the season,

more thananeveral dozen kids in the cedar falls area now have new bikes, helmets and locks. yesterday, variety, the children's charity gave new bikes and accessories to 45 children who have never had their own bikes. it's through the group's bike for kids program, which asks each child to promise that they will ride responsibly. variety teamed up with cedar falls schools and sartori memorial hospital to choose kids who would benefef from a new bike. in the final countdown to christmas, one department store is keeping its doors open for 24 hours. that means the store will be open for 170 hours straight. that's coming up in today's america's money. stay with us.
