hours. first responders took one person to the hospital who had set up a tent in that area. the fire department hasn't said how severe the person's injuries were or how the fire started. iowans usii medicaid now haveve more time to sign up for a new program. the federal government stepped in, delayinthe transition from a public to private system. the federal government ordered the state yesterday to delay the transition until march 1st. the centers for medicare and medicaid services says the extra time will help the state move half a million people to one of four private insurance companini. governor branstad had originally wanted to make the switch by january 1st. this shift comes as some pple complained thdt iowa was moving too quickly to shift patients to private care. kcrg-tv9's chris earl reports one mother of 3 in marengo says just getting information to hospitals for the switch watime consuming. kelli scott never expected to watch for news on medicaid -- then trenton

" kcrg-tv9's chris earl with that story. most health care providers and political leaders in iowa approve of the delay. that includes state senator liz mathis, who has been one of the biggest critics of governor branstad's plan. giving caregivers more appreciation is a new focus for one cedar rapids hospital. mercy medical center in cedar rapids opened the new "family caregivers center." it says there's plenty of research about those

with intense stress and even loneliness. so, the cenenr pairs each caregiver with a volunteer coach, who works with a family to provide support. "family caregivers are stressed because they feel overwhelmed and isolated. and often times they can't figure out what they need when they're taking care of someone with a chronic condition. so our center will help them f@gure out what their needs are." the mercy foundation is raising money for the family caregivers center, which is currentlworking with 50 families. several republican presidential candidates are stumping through iowa today and this weekend following the final 2015 gop bate, earlier this week. senator marco rubio will be talking t tvoters in dubuque following stops in other cities yesterday. he spoke at a town hall in muscatine. today, rubio will hold a town hall at giese sheet metal in dubuque. that will be at

"it's open to the public so anyone who wants to, they can come, if they want to stretch their budget a little bit or ifhey wanthe fellowship together so it's really open to

anybody who just wants to enjoy some time."." the salvation army is still working to reach its 790- thousand dollar christmas campaign goal. it still needs to raise about 330-thousand dollars. the money helps fund programs throughout the year. people now have an idea of what mount mercy university in cedar rapids plans to do in order to add oodoor athletic fields. the 15 million dollar capital campaign is called the home field advantage project. the goal is to provide a "tr" home field for the university's track and field, baseball, softball, and soccer teams. so far, crews have cleared the land close to campus. up until now the mustangs' outdoor teams have been competing throughout the city, often on high school fields and tracks. young people in the nearby moundview neighborhood. city leaders in cedar rapids shared a year in review on the city's flood control system. . the flood control program manager says in 2015, the city transitioned from flood recovery to the control stage. crews have met with the community and have laid out plans for a series of levees, removable walls and permanent walls to protect the community from the cedar river. "while we are not flooding today, it's just an emphasis why we need to do this. we are having record flows in the cedar river for the month off december. just imagine if this was happening in the summer, we would need this." they also discussed a big project that's slated to begin in late 2016. they're already preparing land at the former sinclair site where a levee will protect the newbo area. in a -9 follow-up this morning.. cedar rapids could soon make some changes to the nuisance property ordinance. that ordinance holds landlords accountable for the upkeep and number of
