few helpful tips when dealing with rough winter weather. trooper wonders says drivers should stay home unless it's an absolute emergency. if you do need to get out make sure you drive slow and have warm winter wear in your vehicle. with parts of eastern iowa expected to see both snow and ice, he says drivers need to take even more precaution. tornadoes and flooding, which has left at least 11 people dead. late saturday, severe storms and tornadoes tore through parts of dallas, with winds traveling between 150 to 200 miles per hour. that's according to the national weather service. the storm blew off roofs, mangled vehicles, downed power lines, and toppled trees. areas like garland and rowlett took the brunt of the storm. one survivor remembers the long moments he spent with his family hiding from the storm. " "that sound. i just can't get that sound out of my head....to hear wood buildings cracking, ripping stuff up. all we could do was run to the closet and pray, you know?" " at least 11 people were killed -- some along interstate 30. that's where police say cars may have been thrown from the road. cedar rapids police are investigating a shooting after an injured man showed up at a hospital. officers responded to a report of gunfire around 5:45 yesterday evening in

5th avenue southeast. they did not find a victim in the area. police were later called to a nearby hospital, where a man showed up with a gunshot wound. police believe the man is expected to be ok. waterloo police are still investigating an incident of gunshots, but a victim isn't fully cooperating. officers say a man went to allen hospital with a gunshot wound around 2 a-m yesterday. police say the man is expected to survived. but investigators he's not cooperating with them. authorities aren't certain where the shooting took place. chicago police are facing questions after another officer- involved shooting over the weekend. the police department says an officer responded to a domestic disturbance call early saturday morning. that's when he fired a weapon, killing 55- year-old bettie jones and 19-year-old quintonio legrier. police say a combative person confronted the officer, leading to the shooting. they say jones was accidentally hit. family members and supporters are blaming the police department for bad leadership. " something just needs to be

what earl wrote versus what i changed it to.... it's not a full "onslaught" on politicians expected to shake hands in eastern iowa with the caucuses 37 days away. for the republicans, new jersey chris christie and florida senator marco rubio will be in eastern iowa. christie will host a town that's before events in muscatine, iowa city and cedar rapids tomorrow. meanwhile, rubio has several town-hall meetings set for this week, including stops in clinton and waterloo on tuesday. for the democrats, former maryland governor martin o'malley will hold campaign events in waterloo and tama today. o'malley is showing just 3 percent support in the latest cnn/orc poll. vermont senator bernie sanders will be around the state this week, including stops in davenport and des moines. this week the eastern iowa airport plans to be swamped with fans on their way to pasedena, california. the iowa hawkeyes are playing in the rose bowl this friday. a teen from a suburb of des moines got the ultimate christmas present! his parents surprised him with rose bowl tickets. 16-year-old nathan

and on christmas morning, what he thought was just a t-shirt was actually tickets to the game. the whole sanders family packed up and hit the road yesterday to beat the mass amount of fans. "it's just really special. it's really cool it's still kinda surreal we're actually going i'm sure it's going to be a really cool experience. day. kickoff is scheduled for just after 4 p-m, iowa time. you can watch the game on e-s-p-n. it's a game so many of us played in our school days-- dodgeball. for the first time ever, the u.s. cellular center in cedar rapids partnered with youth organization team iowa to put on an all- day dodgeball tournament. tv9's brady smith takes us to "turf wars." 48 teams...3 courts...and one giant battle fofobragging rights. "you just gotta go hard and give it everything you've got. you've got to be able to catch the ball, throw the ball, dodge the ball." those are the basics, but once on the turf, it's anything but easy to avoid getting pummeled. try telling that to blade durbala and sam maresh, who keep it simple. "like the back of our shirts say: "if you can dodge a pipe wrench, you can dodge a ball!"taylor moore and her purple cobras had to play smart against these guys and their team of benton community juniors.
