president obama says the state of the union is strong and isn't letting up on creating policies for his last year in office. the president spoke to the assembly and americans last night. he says he has 4 questions he wants answered this year and after he leaves office. he spoke about equal opportunity in the economy, making technology work for us, and changing how politics works to better reflect american wishes. he also talked about keeping americans safe. " when you come after americans we go after you and it may take time but we have long memories and our reach has no limits. " the president also said his biggest regret of his presidency divided compared to when he took office. president obama also alluded to republican presidential frontrunner donald trump a few times in uni campus, with more than one thousand others.

supporters about participating in the caucuses ofebruary first. "i spoke with several people who say they've chosen trump as their candidate and do plan to turn out on caucus night.particularly people who have voted in past elections. but for some young voters, the concept of caucusing is a little confusing." sot "i'm not super clear on what caucucu night is, i usually just do primaries and general election, you know, just to my knowledge. but i'm not too clear about what sucks night is, no."it's a process several young voters here say they plan to research, but they're still on the fence about actually participating. trump briefly addressed the issue, saying he believes iowa could make all the difference. "i would tell donald trump to stop talking out of both sides of his mouth and focus on issues that are important to iowans. and thats economic issues.and thats p picies that are going to give them better paychecks. " about 100 people hoping to attend trump's rally had to go home because there wasn't enough space for them. democratic presidential frontrunner hillary clinton is showing her support for president obama's calls to action. democrat hillary clinton tweeted out supportive messages during the state of the union after speaking at the university of dubuque.

"a lot of what he's talked about in his campaign would be very expensive. it would probably by the best estimates end up costing 18 to 20 trillion dollars over 10 years. that's a lot of money, " clinton also criticized governor branstad for closing two mental health institutes in iowa last year. the latest quinnipiac university poll shows trump in a statistical tie with texas senator ted cruz in iowa. and a poll focused on the democrats shows the top two within the margin of error. e quinnipiac poll shows bernie sanders now ahead of hillary clinton. sanders has 49 percent support to clinton's 44 percent. the poll has a 4-point-4 percent margin of error. clinton

a cedar falls man is behind bars this morning for robbing a first national bank. police have charged 26- year-old jon ellingson with second degree robbery. officers say he ran from the bank, changed his clothes, and then police took him into custody. police were first called out at about 1-45 yesterday afternoon to the bank on white tail drive. officers say ellingson did not show a weapon, and they found the stolen money. no one was hurt in the robbery. investigators are searching for the cause of a mobile home fire that killed three people in montrose in extreme southeast iowa. flames had engulfed the home by the time firefighters arrived monday afternoon. they found three bies inside the home. another man made it out with severe burns and cuts. first responders took him to a nearby hospital before air lifting him to university of iowa hospitals and clinics. there's about a 1-in-292 million chance of winning today's 1-point-5 billion dollar

is - do you really want to win? a financial advisor in eastern iowa says it's not as simple as putting the money into a bank, or buying a new house and fancy cars. jeff johnston says if you win, the first step would be to hire a legal team to help manage the money. that would include a lawyer, a tax preparer, and a wealth manager. he says you'd also need to be careful about whom you talk to about your newfound wealth. but in iowa the winner's name would be public record. "you're going to want tooave the ability to do your day-to-day living and be very cognizant of conversations you have with people, being alone with people. i mean, there's people out there that find out you won, and all of a sudden, hey i'm suing you for this, or i fell in your yard and i'm suing you for this." johnston says in addition to finding people to manage all that money, you'd probably want t hire personal security. warren county health officials are investigating a rash of mumps cases. seven students at

down with the mumps in the past month. 5 werervaccinated. the lab confirmed 4 cases right before christmas break. 3 similar illnesses have also surfaced. the school is now asking faculty and students to disinfect common areas several times a day. right now, it's not considered an outbreak. "i would say that we are at a series of cases right now, based on the total number of population " all students are now required to get 2 doses of the measles, mumps and rubella, or mmr, vaccine. the school has notified parents of the developments. university y iowa officials are expecting a spike of mumps cases when students return for classes next week. in december, u-i reported the highest number of cases since 2006, when they reach a couple of hundred. the school did offer free vaccinations in november to those under 25. health officials say the number of cases dropped in december because students were going home for break.

cedar rapids school leaders are trying to close the district's student achievement gap. the school board talked with parents and the community about improving education for all studentsast night. and the board gave an update about its equity efforts and listened to suggestions. the school district says it has hired a consultant to walk through schools and make recommendati ons to be more inclusive. " 21:12:00 we're focusing on finding the best learning for each individual student. so wewere moving away the out of the box model that every student has to learn the same. that can be cost effective but not what's best for each student." last school year, federal investigators visited the district because of allegations schools were punishing black students more harshly than white students. the district has since then focused money and energy on changing its discipline practices.
