chubby armadillo.are investigating a rash of mumps cases. seven students at indianola high school have come down with the mumps in the pas month. 5 were vaccinated. the lab confirmed 4 cases right beforor christmas break. 3 similar illnesses have also surfaced. but as of now it's not considered an outbreak. the school is now asking faculty and students to disinfect common areas several times a day. all ssdents are now required to get 2 doses of the measles, mumps and rubella, or mmr, vaccine. university ofowa officials are expecting a spike of mumps cases when students return for classes next week. in december, u-i reported the highest number of cases since 2006, when they reach a couple of hundred. the school did o@fer free vaccinations in november to those under 25. health officials say y e number of cases dropped in december because students were going home for break.

spearhead the effort to find a cure for cancer. he said this in last night's state of the union address. >> last year, vice president biden said that with a new moon shot america cananure cancer. so tonight i'm announcing a new national effort to get it done and because he's gone to the mat for all of us on so many issues over the past 40 years i'm putting joe in charge of mission control. [ cheers and applause ] for the loved ones we've all lost, for the families that we n still save, let's make america the country that cures cancer once and for all. what do you say, joe? >> joining us now from washington is vice president joe biden. always good to see you, mr. vice president and we heard what the president said last night. we know this is very personal for you because of your beloved son, beau. what does this mean? this role and what exactly does

>> well, it's not sure exactly what it entails but a couple months ago after beau passed i said that wanted to be when i was deciding not to run for president i said had i run i would like to have been the leader of a major moon shot that would cure cancer because you know, robin, god love you, you look so good going thrhrgh what you went through and thank god you've beaten it, you know that every single family in america has been affected by cancer. it's the largest killer in the world and we're so close, so incredibly close on finding cures and fundamental changes and making it a chronic disease sentence. >> it is extremely complicated and everybody knows there are various forms of cancer and i know the president last night said, you know, we've got 20 fix politics but when you look at the federal funding under the obama administration, cancer slightly.

republican congress to fund some of these thingng that you want to accomplish? >> the republicans have already reached out and this is a place where there's really common ground and we added another billion dollars to the pot. the nih this past budget, i think we can generate a consensus here. you have 75% of the people who have cancer of some form and they never get to go to the great research hospitals. i look forward to talking to you about it. >> we will talk more about it. lastly, as you know, so many people have gone through what your family has gone through these late eight months. what has helped, sir, you and your family? >> well, my faith and my knowledge that my son was ready to go.

and there's an -- being able to just sit there and literally with his brother and i holding his hand, it, you know, he was a boy that -- he's a man, he was attorney general but he was a boy always worried about worrying about us and so we focussed on all the inspiration beau was rather than the loss. and you know how hard it is to get through the hole days but we're getting through it. we'ra strong family and i think of all the people that have gone through what i have with one-tenth of what i have an they're the people that i admirere but i thank god i have a big and a close family and we mourn together but we're rising together. >> well, thank you, sir, for yourrace and you will be hearing from me. you will definitely be hearing om me. >> okay. >> thank you for all your years of service. >> stay healthy. god love you, kiddo.
