after the iowa caucuses on february first. but the republicans have one more shot in 10 days, with a debate in des moines. clinton is back in eastern iowa today.. she will speak at the toledo civic center at 6:45 tonight. the former secretary of state is scheduled for visits on thursday to vinton and iowa memorial union on the university of iowa campus. on the republican side, florida senator marco rubio is also in our area. he'll be in decorah, waverly, ottumwa, coralville and ends his day in bettendorf. rubio has been a consistent third in polling behind donald trump and texas senator ted cruz. many schools and businesses are closed today for the doctor martin luther king junior holiday. there are also plenty of events in eastern iowa. today in iowa city, the spot at 10-30 crosspark avenue will host community projects. those will be before and after

at the soapy waters laundromat. the police department says the officer was talking to a suspect when he punched the officer, knocking him out. the officer went to mercy medical center for treatment. police say that suspect, 33-year-old nathan brocks, fought with other responding officers as well. those officers used a taser to get him under control. brocks faces 8 charges, including 2 counts of assault with injury on a peace officer. the iowa division of criminal investigation has released the name of the man a sheriff's deputy shot last week in muscatine. investigators say the deputy shot 41-year-old timothy seefeldt. deputies say seefeldt stole a hummer on friday night. they later stopped him in a hotel parking lot in muscatine. investigators say seefeldt drove off, hitting a law enforcement vehicle, which is why the sheriff's deputy fired his weapon at the suv several times. seefeldt has a und to his torso.

branch 30 years ago has died. the department of corrections says robert kern died saturday at the iowa state penitentiary. he was 69-years-old and died after battling skin cancer. kern was a former iowa city insurance agent and conspired to kill 39-year- old ady jensen of west branch in 1979. prosecutors said kern sold a 50 thousand dollar life insurance policy to jensen's wife without jensen's knowledge. evidence at trial showed kern worked with his ex- wife and jensen's wife to kill jensen and then split the money. an s-u-v crashed into a nail salon in cedar falls. according to the waterloo cedar falls courier, it crashed through the front of top nails and spa at 618 brandilynn boulevard. it happened at about 4:15 yesterday afternoon. the business was open at the time but no one reported any injuries. cedar falls police are investigating. with these subzero temperatures, you may have a

mechanics in central iowa say they usually get dozens of calls from customers who can't start their car when temperatures are this low. some batteries just can't handle the extreme cold. experts say to check your tire pressure since it tends to decrease in colder weather. they also say make sure to give your car time to warm the engine because extreme cold can make the oil thicker. "it'll get thick inside there and that makes it hard for everythihi to turn over inside the engine and it makes it difficult to lube up that's why it's important to you know let your car warm up a bit in the morning " mechanics also recommend drivers keep blankets in the car. it's just in case your car does break down and you're stuck out in the cold. iowa musicians and songwriters are getting a chance to reach a wider audience. the iowa mumuc project is accepting submissions for a songwriting showcase. the organization will select 15 songs from artists with iowa ties for a compilation recording. kcrg-tv9's brady smith explains
