early morning travelers may see authorities at the eastern iowa airport this morning. they were called out there around 7:30 last night for a suspicious substance found in a bag. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders is live at the airport this morning. forrest, what can you tell us so far? chris, nicole, it's back to business as usual here at the eastern iowa airport. earlier this morning though, totally different scene. airport police had closed off this entire area, the bag claim, while hazmat checked out an unknown substance. here's what authorities are telling us: this started just before 7 pm. airline personnel altered airport public safety a suspicious bag had come in on a flight from chicago. the bag area was closed off a little while after. hazmat was called in to investigate.

hazardous. the bag claimed area re-opened around 4 a.m. no one is in custody. no flights were impacted. nor should they be for the rest of the day the next flight arrives in just a few minutes. guys? live at the eastern iowa airport, forrest saunders, kcrg-tv9 news. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. two men will be in court on monday for a fatal fire in ottumwa 10 years ago. 28 year old christopher yenger of ottumwa and 27 year old zachary dye of council bluffs each face two counts of first degree murder. in 2006, the iowa fire marshal said they couldn't determine the cause of the fire. but authorities say new information shows the men started it intentionally after yenger got into a fight at a party at the home.

county at about 6:30 in the morning on march 5th 2006. the fire killed 20 year old nathan messer and 22 year old seth anderson, both of ottumwa, who were sleeping on the second floor. yenger and dye have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to be back in court for a hearing on monday. a dubuque man accused of killing his grown daughter won't go to trial until april. a judge has delayed the trial that was supposed to start tuesday. 63-year-old robert stern's trial will now start on april 26th. stern faces a 1st-degree murder charge. police say he shot and killed his 27-year-old daughter, kimberly stern, last june. investigators found her body in the home they shared on clark drive in dubuque. a case against the university of iowa law school is going to the federal appeals court. lawyer teresa manning and her attorney are still fighting for the case and believe manning deserves a new trial. two different juries already decided the school did

discrimination by not hiring manning - who is politically conservative - for a full-time professor position. a man is in custody this morning for 3 separated break-ins in iowa city. police say 22-year-old da'rell henry stole x-boxes from 2 separate homes in november and december, and pawned them off. police say he threatened a homeowner with a knife in one incident. in a third break-in that happened in january, police say they matched henry's boot-prints in the snow with the prints found at an earlier break-in. as the caucuses get closer, the pressure for candidates to secure votes is rising. frontrunner for the g-o-p donald trump held an event last night at the university of iowa - and plenty of supporters and protestors showed up. kcrg-tv9's sarah mccarthy has more. "this space inside the university of iowa fieldhouse was completely filled with people waiting to hear from republican presidential front-runner donald trump. but not everyone was a supporter." scenes like this stopped donald trump's

debate tomorrow his campaign manager says he will hold events in iowa, instead. there has been an ongoing feud between trump and fox news since the first debate back in august. trump has repeatedly criticized host megyn kelly for what he calls unfair questioning during the debate. democratic candidate hillary clinton says president obama hasn't gotten enough credit for his achievements in office. she made several campaign appearances yesterday in eastern iowa, including this one at the hotel winneshiek in decorah. there clinton praised president obama for his work over the past 7 years, and says republicans haven't given him the credit he deserves. she mentioned several of his accomplishments, including job growth, yet added there's more work to do. " some parents in marshalltown aren't happy their kids were let out out of school early because of trump and clinton campaign events. trump spoke to supporters shortly after 5 o'clock last night at the high school, while clinton held an event around 8:30 at a middle school. because of the visits, the district decided to dismiss all students early yesterday, at 1 o'clock. that meant families had to shuffle schedules - and some aren't convinced it was for the best reason. "cancel appointments to pick up my nephew, had to rearrange to have somebody watch them so i could come get my nephew." the district says it made the decision when it realized how much chaos there would be at each school leading up to the events.

growing demand for services. the marion mayor says the city's population has grown 37 percent since 2000. and he's hoping to document that growth. marion mayor nick abouassaly delivered the state of the city message for marion yesterday. he told a large crowd the city saw 243 new homes going up inside city limits in 2015. he also expects big news this year with plans for shape. feature the unveiling of a new statue. the coralville city council is set to vote on a contract with a kalona company that could design and create a hayden fry statue. the contract would be with max-cast for making the $36,000 statue to honor the former hawkeye football coach. the plan is to have the statue ready for the annual hawkeye celebration and concert at the start of every football season. coralville hopes to put the statue somewhere in the iowa river landing. the mayor says there will be no cost to taxpayers. coralville has

"honestly, there are things more important than your life, and freedom is one of them."oregon protester lavoy finicum -- telling n-b-c news that he would rather die than be arrested... tuesday night, finicum was killed... ...as authorities arrested protest leader ammon bundy and several members of the armed group occupying the malheur national wildlife refuge. officials say it started with a traffic stop, and that finicum and bundy's brother - ryan - refused to surrender. the bundy ranch claimed on facebook that finicum "had his hands up and was shot 3 times." officials.. haven't commented much beyond saying it's not clear who fired first. ryan bundy suffered minor injuries -- finicum died at the scene. he had been one of the most outspoken members of the armed group... ...that took over the refuge earlier this month to protest federal land policies.
