"median family income today, $4,000 less than it was in 1999." the ad titled "working families" basis this claim on a u-s census report showing the median u.s. household income last year was $53,600 -- about $4,200 less than in 1999. but the average american didn't actually earn more in 1999. the median household income in 1999 was acally
4:35 am
that $424200 in 1999 is actually worth nearly 58-thousand dollars today. more than the average income today. a second sanders ad claims this. "the 15 richest americans acquired more wealth in two years than the bottom 100 million people combined." forbes magazine says the 15 richest americans - think bill gates and warren buffett -- increased their net worth in the last two years by nearly $130 billion. meanwhile, the bottom quarter of americans in 2013 had a median net worth of less than $50. the next highest quarter of americans were worth a median $31,000. that is down 9-percent from 2010. so the poorest roughly 155-million americans actually lost et worth in that span while the gateses and buffetts of the nation got richer. we give sanders an a on both claims.
