made their picks for president. with local v ves tallied, it's now onto new hampshire. good tuesday morning! its 430 on february 2nd. here is a live look at . we'll get to the latest on the storm in moment - first, a quick look at caucus results as we're still waiting on 1 precinct out of polk county. it's still too close to call between hillary clinton and bernie sanders. but ted cruz will take the victory in iowa for the republicans. with now 99 percent reporting, clinton is ahead at 49 point 9 percent but sanders is just point 3 behind her at 49 point 6. 2-point-28 delegates are at stake in that outstanding precinct. for the republicans, ted cruz won with 27.7 percent of the votes. donald trump is in second with 24.3 percent. and marco rubio makes a strong third place finish with 23.1 percent. now to the storm headed our way we bring in meteorologist kaj o'mara has your first alert forecasas whwh's the timing looking like

look at road preparations in the city. thanks justin. i am standing outside of the garage e ere snow plows ininedar rapids will be getting going later this morning. nothing is falling right now, but the city is preparing for a mixed bag of precipitation. some equipment has s lready hit the e reets laying down base materials to fight freezing roads. crews say the most important thing about this storm is the timing. one of the biggest concerns is the expected snow during the morning commute today. cedar rapaps' streets superintendent s ss his plan is to use a lot of salt on the roadways to prevent any snow from bonding and icing on the pavement. " 7:56:06 timing on an event like this where most of the snow comes throughout the day hours, it makes it a little easier on our crews. we have more people here on dayshifts and we don't have to hold people over as much. the downside is we are dealing with a lot of traffic and people

the next state to vote is new hampshire on the 9th. voters from m th parties will participate. after this, the different primaries and caucuses start to split. the democrats caucus in nevada on the 20th. on the same day the republicans have a primary vote in south carolina. then the republicans will have their caucuses in nevada on the 23rd. on february 27th, the democrats will hold their primary in south carolina. all leading up o march 1 -- super tuesday - 14 republican and 11 democratic primaries or caucuses... including the more populated states of georgia, massachusett s, virginia and texas. both political parties are reporting some of the highest caucus turnouts ever for last ninit. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders is live in des moines. forrest, it was a busy night at the precincts. huge. there were reports that some had a hard time fitting everyone in the doors. four out

the republicans are the big story here. let's talk numbers. more than 180-thousand registered republicans voted last night. that's the new benchmark. for perspective, in 2012 republicans had roughly 122 thousand registered voters turn out. that's was about 20 percent. . gop leaders say ey attribibe the boom to the diversity ofofhe candidates this cycle. but, also the commitment the candidates had for iowa. ""i think it's been one of the most incredible campaigns that iowa has ever seen. it's been gogong on for a year. it's been going on year. it's been really enthusiastic among the candidates, among the people here. they've come to many events here. they've traveled to all 99 counties." " dem party leaders said, at last check, more than 140-thousand had turned out. even once the final numbers are official, the party won't likely break their huge turnout set in 2008, about 240-thousand registered voters. that's nearly 40 percent. live

kcrg-tv9 news. high turnout was the story in much of eastern iowa as well. tv-9's iowa city bureau chchf mark carlson tells us about the enthusiastic voters at the university of iowa fieldhouse. "more than double than what was expected turnout out to this caucus at the ui fieldhouse and it was very loud, a stadium like atmosphere!"c hanting nats bernie sanders was the clear favorite inside the fieldhouse monday night. hundreds of young people lined up to caucus for the 74-year-old. the line stretching way out the door, while people played basketball while waiting to caucus. "right when actually got up to the front the old guy was like, yeah can we get a few more cards, we've e t like 300 more peopop coming in and i'm just like. i'm going to get a basketball, it's going to take a little while."about 500 people turned out to the campus caucus. organizers originally said they expected about 200. participants say it shows

was simply getting the caucus to come to the people. " i think it was a wonderful thing the party is trying to do reaching out to communities having trouble getting to caucus night " the satellite idea was aimed at accommodatin g those with physical limitations--like the residents at this large iowa city retirement communitit 125 out of 170 democrats pre registered to take part in a caucus here. many of the residents have mobility issues using walkers or wheelchairs. so an opportunity to caucus literally without leaving home was a hit. "i thought for the first time in my adulullife i wouldn't have gone t t a caucus i might as well havevehrown in the towell so when we foiund out they were entertaining applications i thought oh that's great, i'll do it.
