fire in north english. they say it started around 8:30 last night at a house in 400 block of w. clark street. the fire generated a lot of smoke. and crews were on scene fighting the fire for several hours. we're working to find out more information if anyone was hurt or the extent of the damages. 3 people are recovering this morning after a nearly 30 car pile up on interstate 80. uthorities say the s sw may have caused this mess. the iowa state patrol says the first two crashes happened around noon at the west branch exit. a short time later, a pileup of 28 vehicles happened nearby. three people were hurt in that crash. the wrecks forced authorities to shut down the westbound lanes for several hours. today family and friends of a waucoma man will remember his life. according to the waterloo cedar falls courier, 36- year-old brady kuennen died last wednesday in a snowmobile accident in michigan. the sriff's office says he lost control of his snowmobile, fell off, and hit a tree. kuennen was in michigan's upper

when the accident happened. it's under investigation - the sheriff's office says he may have been drinking. a vinton family is desperately searching for answers. a 35 year old disappeared almost three months ago. no one has seen him since. but police say searching for missing adults is not always an easy process. kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us at the desk this morning. brea, you spoke with family members? i did, they're hoping by getting the word out about their son, he will hopefully be found. joshua wellman was last seen on november 12th. he was dropped off at a-s-a-c, a substance abuse center in cedar rapids. now his mother and stepfather are asking anyone who knows anything to please speak up. "there's definitely something wrong." afr joshua wellman's mother dropped him off three months ago, she never thought he wouldn't come home. when family members didn't hear from him for a couple days, they immediately contacted police. wellman is a father, and very close to his family. 6:38 "he wouldn't go a day without talking to his sister or

the united states until january 20, 2017 news outlee have mentioned jane kelly as a potential supreme court nominee. she's a judge in the u-s court of appeals for the 8th circuit in cedar rapids. kelly is a harvard law graduate and president obama's classmate. she has received support from senator chuck grassley, who chairs the judiciary committee. for now, the supreme court will continue to hear cases -- but with 8 justices. that includes cases on abortion and unions. any decision that comes to a 4-4 tie would mean any lower court ruling stands. governor branstad is also ordering all flags to be flown at half staff today to honor justice scalia. environmental leaders are meeting tomorrow to talk about what's next in an investigation that found asbestos at a cedar rapids high school. the environmental protection commission will meet tomorrow. the commission could decide to send the case to the a aorney general's office for enforcement. both the cedar rapids school district and

asbestos, abatement specialties, will be allowed to comment during that meeting. the investigation found there was uncontained asbestos at washington high school last year. the district says renovation work was happening in the area - but students and staff did not have access to it. the district sayayit cleaned the area where it found asbestos and tested the air when the work was done. the cedar falls city council will meet tonight for the city's budget hearing. according to the waterloo cedar falls courier. the total proposed budget starting july 1st would be $17.9 million dollars. that is slightly higher than the year before -- which was $17.6 million dollars. that means the owner of a home with an assessed valuation of $100,000 would see a 0.5% increase. or it would go up from $3.37 a year to $6.45. many of iowa's teacher misconduct cases are not ininhe national database. more than 100 cases were left out since 1990. the des moines register investigated into the issue where they found mistakes in iowa's information,
