investigating gunshots this morning after they found more than a dozen shell casings. it happened around 7:15 last night in the 1500 block of woodmayr drive. police say no one was hurt, but bullets hit 2 houses. a waterloo woman is back behind bars this morning. she faces charges for setting a house on fire and stabbing a person inside. the fayette county sheriff's office arrested 20-year-old ashley welch on tuesday for violating pre-trial supervision. police say she started a fire at 10-06 home park boulevard in waterloo last march. that's where they found a stabbing victim. she is awaiting trial for first-degree e son among other charges. firefighters in jo daviess county are investigating a house fire that destroyed the home. fire crews responded to the area near stockton street and front avevee in stockton, illinois. that was around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. they were on scene for hours battling the fire. no one was hurt. a bill making its way through the legislature would reqeqre drivers to swswch lanes to pass someone riding a

that's the same rule for passing another vehicle. drivers would not be required to change lanes when a cyclist is using a bike lane. state senatotobill dotzler says the goal is to prevent deadly crashes from passing too close. going to improve safety, we've had people run over and killebecause people didn't get over proper distances. limit in the past. two health insurance providers say they're ending efforts to gain contracts to manage iowa's medicaid program. iowa terminated a contract with wellcare in december for unfair bidding practices. wellcare later joined a lawsuit with meridian health plan that said the stste's bidding process was flawed and should be reopened. a judge rejected the suit monday. spokespersons for both companies say they're not planning to appeal. the independence community school district is taking a proactive appraoch to drones. it recently adopted a new drone policy. it prohibits anyone from using or having drones at district events, games, tournaments or above district property. the only exception would be if the superintendent gave permission. the district says it wanted to keep students, staff and visitors safe. say not all students or their parents want to be on video or photographed . mount vernon community high school students have put together a special project focusing on cedar rapids. it's a part of the school's new social justice course, aimed at teaching students about inclusion and equality. last month, as part of the lessons - the students went to the mission of hope in cedar rapids. while there, they helped cook and serve meals to those in need. this is all a part of getting students to understand the people around them -- outside of their comfort zone kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us this morning. brea, the project is based off of an effort called humans of new york? it is, for those who aren't aware of what that is, it's a best selling book which features photos of people othe streets of the city. this is theiracebook page where you can see their work. those people were asked questions, and the book shares a sentence or two of there stories. one teacher used that method right here, to teach students compassion. english teacher leigh ann

she wanted students in her social justice course to get tonow people they usually wouldn't. 52:20 "what this project does is it shatters the single story, its no longer homeless is all of this, it is homelessness is a man who has a job and loves music and is interested in cooking. it's a person, it's a story, it's a face" and those faces now fill dozens of pages. erickson took her class to downtown cedar rapids and asked them to do one thing, talk. which isn't always an easy thing to do wiwi strangers. 50:55 "initiaiay it was really scaryrybecause we didn't know how people were going to react we didn't know if people were going to talk to us." but they did, and students began to see a side of people they had never seen. starting with a homeless woman met on the street. 46:07 "she had a grocery cart, and she had trash bags full of it. i walked up and we were talking and i asked her what her biggest fear was, and she told me that she came to cedar rapids in 2007, and she came her for a home, and her biggest fear was the fact that she could become homeless again." leaving an impact on them. 48:43 "it really opened my eyes to the fact everyone has their own story, just like we have our own story, and the fact that people were willing to share it

docks, it will only keep new docks out of some areas. the army corps will hold a public meeting about tonight at the lake's visitor center. that goes from 4 to 8. some in dubuque want the city council to set aside more money for those who are struggling financially.. city council members heard this call during the budget hearing for next year. the housing and community development department told the city that it wants to keep those in dubuque with lower incomes to become selflfufficient. the city's transit dedertment also presented its budget and talked about adding lights and benches to bus stops. a dubuque sporting goods store is closing its doors for the second time in less than a year. m-c sports is on the northwest arterial. it's holding a closeout sale. the store has been open since 2005 and will close in april or may. this is one of four stores closing across the u- s.s. a two way tie and a three way fued. we're getting ready for the south carolina primary. while some polls show democrat hillary clinton ahead of bernie sanders, a poll in nevada

aculty resignations at the university of iowa went up more than 36 percent last academic year compared to the year before. the iowa regentsmost recent report shows 66 faculty members resigned in the 2013- to 2014 school year. that number jumped to 90 in 2014- to 2015. the university's associate provost for faculty says exit surveys showed it may b b over salaries. university president bruce harreld recently asked the legislature to approve a four and a half million dollar increase in sta funding. looking for a babysitter? it'll cost you more now compared to last year. more on that coming

a car bombing killed at least 28 people and injured dozens of others in a aara, rkey. the explosion happened near vehicles carrying military members in the center of the capitol city. at least two of the vehicles caught fire. the turkish government says a syrian national was behind the attack. the attack came months after suicide bombings killed 102 people in the city. now for a quick check on your weather with meteorologist kaj o'mara.
