making. you're watching g rg-tv9. now, from your 24 hour news source, this is kcrg-tv9 news at 5:30. people across the state of iowa are working on solving an ongoing issue. there's a disproportion ate number of black and colored youth in the foster care system. this is data from iowa kids net, an organization that works with the department of human services to work with foster families. in linn county, 51-percent of the 196 children in foster care last summer identified as something other than caucasian. in johnson county, 73- care identified as 92-percent of iowans are white. kcrg-tv9's jill kasparie joins us in the studio. jill - who is taking part in this effort? a number of people are working on solving the

youth in the child welfare system. that includes d-h-s, iowa kids net, juvenile court services and of course -- foster parents. monique clark's home is typically filled with kids. she's a proud parent and foster parent. "i take them in as though they are my family from the day they come in the door this isn't your foster sister or brother, this is your sibling." she's taken care of about thirty foster children since her early 20s. currently, she has three of her own children, one adopted child and two foster children. "it feels like what i was supposed to be doing. if i had enough sce, i would probably have 24 kids here." her love for all of her kids is why she's taking center stagegeo help find a solutiti to the disproportionate number of black children in the foster care system. "considering that the population of the state is a fraction of the population in comparison to what that looks like for foster care, it is concerning."
