river in clermont will crest 6 feet over the flood stage. roberts says the turkey river will crest at 22 feet around 10-30 this morning. at 11-30 last night, the river was at 17 and a half feet. major flood stage is 20 feet. in elgin, the river was 4 feet over the flood stage. roberts says more than 150 volunteer firefighters from 7 all over the region helped sand bag. 11-30 in clermont. when we asked her about how many sandbags firefighters used, she said thousands. the city of clermont has already evacuated an r-v park in clermont in anticipation of the turkey river's continued rise. the mayor of spillville in winneshiek county says this flood is worse than 2008. mayor mike klimesh says the turkey river in spillville set a record high yesterday, beating the previous high water mark by a

the middle of a lake. crews just installed a new floor last year. the community raised money for new flooring after the 2008 flood. there just wasn't enough time to put sandbags around the building. between four and six inches of rain fell over winneshiek and allamakee counties yesterday. water filled basements and got into the main level of at least eight homes along the river. flood victims say damaged the town. and this time there was nothing they could do to stop it. "it rose so fast that we couldn't mobilize fast enough, and as you can see, it would have been a fruitless effort." clean-up will start again today in spillville. authorities have recovered the body of a man who was swept away in the flooding. police say he called 9-1-1 to report his car being caught in the floodwaters. chickasaw county investigators say the death happened when floodwaters from the

yesterday morning on county road v-56. they found the driver's body yesterday, less than half a mile away from his car, north of lawler. the sheriff's office has not yet released the man's name. one deputy says it's important for people to turn around when there's flooding. " we strongly recommend if there's flooding to contact the local sheriff's office let them know where the flooding has occurred and ask our sheriff's office to see if there is a safe way to get to the destination. " along the upper iowa river... decorah, are cleaning up and trying to return home amid the high water. one challenge for people has been crossing roads with water on them. firefighters evacuated freeport early yesterday morning and allowed people to go back to their houses around 4 p-m. many basements took on flooding and some caved in from all of the water. " the upper iowa river peaked around midday yesterday and is forecast to pull back into its banks fully by tomorrow. next door in decorah, there is significant property damage. the sheriff says several home foundations have crumbled under the heavy water. about 85 football players from luther college, decided to pitch in and help those affected by the flood. "the decorah area myself, it definitely was just kind of second nature, to be able to put football camp on hold for take care the people who cheer you on on saturdays and the people who matter most to me in my life..making sure they were safe, making sure all their possessions were safe before you know, kinda going back and playing the game that we care so much about, it was just kinda easy to do." rooms for a reduced rate of 75 dollars a night. a shelter at the decorah public library will open at eight this morning. a waterloo man is free this morning after a jury found him not guilty of first degree murder. jurors acquitted 25 year old perquondis holmes for the death of... ... daequan campbell three years ago. campbell was 18. more than a year ago, a jury found holmes guilty, but a judge threw out that verdict. that's because jurors in the first trial saw ev claimed holmes fired a gun at a car in a waterloo parking lot in november 2013, killing campbell. polk county investigators say two people found dead on tuesday were likely dead in the home - north of des moines - for a few days. deputies found 26- year-old raymond silbaugh.. and 42-year-old alicia arpy dead in the home between des moines and ankeny. they say there were no obvious signs of trauma. the investigators say the home did not have electricity. instead, it had a generator, which can emit the deadly gas

stopped construction on the bakken oil pipeline on 15 iowa properties. that's at least until monday. a texas company has started building the pipeline that will stretch from north dakota to illinois, going through 18 counties here in iowa. but 15 landowners have sued. they're challenging the utilities board's authority to allow a privately owned company to use eminent domain so they can build the pipeline on the landowners' pr legal issues of the lawsuit. iowa isn't the only state dealing with opposition to the pipeline. a native american tribe is trying to stop construction in north dakota. a federal judge says he'll decide next month on the tribe's request. hundreds of protesters from across the country surrounded a federal courthouse in washington d-c yesterday. but the federal judge did not immediately rule on a request from the standing rock sioux tribe to stop the oil pipeline under construction near

access pipeline's route under the missouri river could threaten its water supplies if the pipeline leaks or breaks. one member says the u.s. army corps of engineers never consulted his tribe before the construction began. in france today, the highest administrative court will hold a hearing on a ban of "burkinis". burkinis are what many are calling hair-covering swimsuit some muslim women wear. some cities in france have enacted a law that doesn't allow women to wear these swimsuits on public beaches. they say it's a symbol of islamic extremism and violators face a fine. the french human rights league filed a request to remove bans. an algerian business man has offered to pay any woman's fine. " when i saw that a few french mayors were prohibiting -and without any public debate- peaceful women wearing the piece of clothing of their choice, i understood that
