128-year-old building before winter. the cedar rapids city council will hold a special meeting today to talk about giving the company access to the building. last month, the council picked a proposal from hobart to turn the building into apartments and office space. council members liked the idea of immediately stabilizing the building. the hobarts expect finish the project by next fall. initially, the council considered a plan to turn the building into a magnet school. the cedar rapids school district says it will likely find another locati in a kcrg t-v nine update the linn county sheriff's office says a shooting came from a fight over trespassing. when sheriff's deputies arrived at palo auto salvage on old ferry road around 4:45 pm yesterday, they found 45 year old melvin roberts with a gunshot wound in the leg. the sheriff's office says a man found roberts trespassing, and shot him when they started arguing and it got heated. they expect roberts to be okay. the deputies eventually arrested

not face charges at this time. a judge has denied bond to the man accused of killing 2 nuns in rural mississippi. 46-year-old rodney sanders is charged with capital murder as well as grand larceny and burglary. officials aren't sure yet if sanders intentionally targeted the nuns. the two nuns who were killed, sisters paula merrill and margaret held, have iowa connections. sister rose hacker of sacred heart parrish in boone knew both women. she helped start project effort by students to collect school supplies to send to mississippi. when sister margaret first moved to mississippi, sister rose joined her. "we lived together for 4/4 years and that's when i met sister paula because they worked at the same clinic so we became friends " " sister rose says her faith is getting her through this

rezoning more land for a sand mining company that has been mining silica sand for years. the pattison sand company wanted the change for more than 700 acres of land, giving it the option to mine the property in the future. the supervisors passed the second and third readings of the rezoning yesterday, making the decision final. it changed from agricultural to heavy industrial. the supervisors are also requiring the mining to be underground. pattison has to implement a and it also must pay for any well damage from the mining. pattison still needs a conditional use permit from the clayton county board of adjustment. dakota access has asked a federal judge in des moines to issue a restraining order against two protest groups and their leaders. it's against iowa citizens for community improvement and bold iowa. the groups are planning ways to block construction along the oil pipeline route, which includes 18 counties in iowa. this is video of protestors in

protestors have burned some of their equipment, causing three million dollars in property damage. protestors released a statement, saying big oil does not get to restrict their freedom of speech while protecting property rights and water. governor terry branstad says if protestors try to stop construction of the pipeline, he'll authorize the iowa state patrol to deal with them. the governor says troopers would make sure construction workers stay safe. the nearly 12 hundred mile pipeline would send oil from north dakota to illinois. branstad says protestors should accept the iowa utility board's approval of the project. governor branstad has also added two counties to his flood disaster proclamation. people in bremer and chickasaw counties can now also apply for state funding to help with flood clean up. the governor had already listed allamakee, winneshiek, clayton, fayette and howard counties. you have until october 14th to apply for help. a judge in polk county says the

associate athletics director who's suing the school for discrimination. the university has informed jane meyer that it plans to eliminate her current job with the college of liberal arts and sciences next week. meyer tried to get an injunction to stop that. but the judge denied it, saying she was trying to use iowa's whistleblowe r law without naming any specific violation of that law. until december 20- 14, meyer was a senior associate athletics director. then the university moved her to se bias in the athletics department. her complaint came after the university fired her partner, field hockey coach tracey griesbaum in august 2014. the university says student-athletes complained that griesbaum mentally and verbally abused them. meyer has sued the university, the state regents, and the state, claiming gender and sexual orientation discrimination. her suit goes to trial next april. a dubuque man is facing a felony robbery charge after police say he
