police said the man died at unity point health - st. luke's hospital in cedar rapids after responders took him there. the iowa department of criminal investigation is now handling the incident, with an autopsy scheduled at the state medical examiner's office in ankeny. cedar rapids police tell tv9 that both officers are on administrative leave pending an d-c-i investigation. when we spoke with police this morning, they say they aren't yet releasing the names of anyone involved at this time. as investigators try to figure out what led to a drowning in the iowa river o night, those who knew the 20-year-old uni student who died are remembering his life. first responders pulled nathan twedt of marion from the iowa river, near benton street bridge in iowa city, on saturday night. police are still investigating the circumstances that led to his death. twedt was a sophomore at northern iowa where, last night, students held a vigil. some said twedt was well known on campus and majored in business. his friends say they'll miss nathan's energy and spirit on campus. the u-n-i campus minister says

school, staff or students. it's important to know there are resources for people who are feeling hopeless. call the national suicide prevention hotline which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. that phone number is 1- 800-273-talk, or 8255. the trial for a man accused of killing a woman in benton county last fall is now underway. jury selection started yesterday in the trial of 32 yeao degree murder in the death of sabrina janish. investigators say they found her body strangled and stabbed multiple times in the driveway of a home near shellsburg last october. court documents show investigators found miller's blood on janish's clothing and body, and blood from both on a vehicle outside his home on 59th street trail -- north of shellsburg. d-n-a testing led to miller's arrest earlier this year. today, this dubuque man will go on trial for 1st- degree murder.

killing his daughter kimberly stern in june of 20-15. police say he shot his daughter 17 times with 3 handguns. she was 27 years old. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. people living in newton have mixed feelings about 800 sex offenders moving to the city's prison. the prisoners are coming from other prisons across the state. that includes the mount pleasant prison, which has a dorm-style set up. authorities say the newton correctional facility has 12-hundred beds and worried about those offenders staying there after they get out or possible breakouts. "this isn't an ideal situation but we'll work our way through it just to make sure our correctional officers have the resources they need to make sure they keep our community safe " all of the prisoners are almost moved into new. there are still around 100 offenders at the mount pleasant facility, which has iowa's sex offender treatment program. those classes should be

donald trump is back in iowa today. he is speaking at noon at the seven flags event center in clive. doors open at 9 this morning. he will then head to a private fundraising luncheon in west des moines. the league of women voters of johnson county wants to make sure voters know about the candidates they'll find on their ballot this november. they've tied into the launch of the website vote411. org, calling it a "one stop shop" for election information. it' information about candidates, including their direct responses to the issues. it will include every candidate race and ballot issue in johnson county and the state of iowa. the website also allows you to register to vote and search for voting information. the mount vernon school district wants voters to approve a 15 point nine million dollar bond for its high school today. it would go toward a new performing arts omplex, a new athletics complex, as well as renovating classrooms. it needs a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

morning to eight tonight at the mount vernon city hall. there's also a vote today in lone tree. voters in the school district will decide on a two point five million dollar bond to build a new health and wellness facility. if approved, it would go up across the street from the school at the corner of devoe and linn streets. it also needs 60 percent approval. voters can cast ballots from 7 to 8 today at the lone tree american legion. a cedar falls mother wants her son's classmates to know and better understand his autism. educate her son's classmates at peet junior high school about the disorder so they can better interact with him. she says his 7th grade teachers and students are very accepting and want to help. "that being with joey now, seeing how he is capable and smart. that in the future, that will translate to a more welcome community where he will be able to get a job, and he will be supported and have friends and feel connected. connect families, so they can work to support students with autism. we have our first kcrg-tv9 student of the month of the school year. 17-year old mercedez fay is a senior at cedar rapids washington high school. she already has a certified nursing assistant license and is working on her r-n. mercedez works hard for everything she's accomplisd. we'll introduce you to her at the end of the month. if you'd like to nominate a student for october, head to kcr from holding classes to booking criminals to brewing coffee. one historic building in asbury has been through quite a transformatio n in the past few years. this former 1-room school house on asbury road was most recently home to the asbury police department. but now the jumble coffee company in dubuque has expanded to the historic school building. owners are marking the school's history by displaying old photos of students and teachers. they've also re-purposed

lost parrot. marvin fussell says he lost his parrot last week. the pet, named sunnybird, disappeared last week after marvin let it outside to get some fresh air. marvin says he frequently lets sunnybird outside and she never flys away. after 36 hours away from home, marvin says he assumed a hawk had eaten the parrot. but marvin later got a call that sunnybird was at the animal shelter after a group of neighbors trapped her and called "eventually sunny bird flew into the house at the address where the officer got her, and she closed the garage door so that sunny bird couldn't get away. " sunnybird did hurt her leg in the ordeal, but she should recover fully. chat and shop. how users are now able to use facebook messenger to make purchases within the app in today's tech bytes.

campaign trail in central iowa today. his opponent, hillary clinton, is recovering at home from pneumonia. but as abc's lana zak reports hillary clinton is a source of attention for both for her health and for calling half of donald trump's supporters "deplorables." clinton: i'm feeling so much better, calling in to cnn last night, hillary clinton tried to reassure voters that her health isn't an issue they should take to the ballot charlie rose her campaign is not hiding any health secrets. nothing more to know. the democratic nominee acknowledge d it was the combination of the heat and pneumonia that caused her to "lose her balance" as she left the 9/11 event in new york sunday...but aides initially neglected to mention the pneumonia diagnosis that came on friday --pegging it only to heat and dehydration. now, clinton aides confessing that they should have been more forthcoming.... but also saying the ublic knows more about hrc than any nominee
