role in the play. the play follows a boy who is the only deaf member of a family living in london. t-c-r says no deaf actors showed up to auditions and they were just following policy when it comes to selecting actors. the actors are all volunteers and do not get paid. robert vizzini, a chairman for the cedar rapids association of the deaf, spoke through an interpreter, saying he doesn't understand why no one from t-c-r reached out to him about the play. ",'"it's not hard to communicate with the deaf community. we can be emailed wi since march, i am perplexed as to why as a leader of the deaf community i have had no contact with the director or with anyone from the theater that's perplexing to me,". " the executive director of t-c-r, casey prince, sat in on the meeting, listening to everyone's thoughts. he says he will take what he learned from the discussion to other t-c-r staff. authorities are interviewing police and witnesses after two officers

the officers killed 25- year-old markell bivins during a domestic disturbance at valley high apartments monday night. investigators believe bivins stabbed a woman who was inside the apartment at the time. she went to the hospital and is expected to live. one neighbor says some had noticed signs of conflict between bivins and the woman. "a couple of days ago, my cousin was outside and there was arguing between the victim and the man who was killed" the two officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave, which is department policy. the iowa division of criminal investigation is not expected to release their names until they complete interviews. some in iowa city are trying again to stop construction on a new home that would look like kinnick stadium. the iowa city board of adjustment will consider an appeal against the home today. reid and sandy carlson want to build the 7,500 square foot replica in the manville heights

6. neighbors put up nearly 100 signs to protest the house and filed the appeal challenging the building permit. they worry the home will create parking problems and safety concerns. for the first time in iowa, waverly is attempting to bring four veterans organizations together under one roof. already the new waverly area veterans post is a model for other communities. the four million dollar facility opened this month. it's made up of the local and the marine corps league. w-a-v-p staff hope to add more outreach services for veterans in the near future. these resources could include job searches or signing up for college classes. staff also hopes to bring more veterans into its facility. saturday october 8th. a new report highlights the racial inequality at one of iowa's largest high schools. more than a year ago violent, fights with racial undertones broke out between students in the halls of west des moines valley high school. those fights prompted discussion. researchers conducted a study, finding "deep racial disparities" do exist at valley high school. the recent stud more likely to be labeled as "special needs" and "at risk" than white students. the district is trying to come up with a plan to make positive changes in the classrooms and hallways. "the results are really troublesome to me and to our administration at valley high school but what we want to focus on is really is that we've learned from the audit." the school superintenden t says the goal is to have district-wide teams formed

opposed improvements for the school district. they said 'no' to a 15 point 9 million dollar bond issue. it only got 36 percent approval it needed a 60 percent super majority to pass. the district wanted to build a new performing arts complex, a new auditorium and a new athletics complex. it would have also paid for adding and renovating classrooms in the district's three schools. voters in lone tree approved 2-point-5 million dollars for the school district. the bn money to renovate school buildings. it will also build a health and wellness facility. and voters in dubuque support extending the school district's physical plant and equipment levy, or ppel. with 80 percent approval, the money will pay for physical upgrades to schools and buses. property taxes will not increase. osage school district voters rejected a $14.9 million dollar bond issue

according to the waterloo courier, the vote was 52% no and almost 48% yes. it needed 60% to pass. the proposal included a new gym and classroom remodels in lincoln elementary. a dedicated space for middle school and high school students also was a part of the plan. as the school year is only a few weeks old, more students are earning their credits at kirkwood community college. the college released its enrollment numbers, saying it saw the most growth with out of state students. it grew 10% to 913 out of state students, up nearly 100 more students high school duel enrollment numbers also went up 6%, adding more than 200 students to nearly 3,900. the city of hazelton will shut off its water supply at 8 o'clock this morning after a water main break. the city says the water will be off for about two hours. after it's back on, a boil advisory will go into effect until water samples come back clean. the company constructing the bakken oil pipeline took about 30 pieces of heavy

the pipeline is on a temporary hold for now. workers at the pipeline site did not have to encounter protestors as they took equipment away. instead, police provided security as the employees loaded up heavy machinery and drove it away. ohio police say two bodies were found in a house where a woman was rescued after an abduction. the woman was alive and had called police from inside of the house. when police arrived, they discovered the kidnapped woman bodies of two other women. police then took 40-year- old shawn grate, a homeless man, into custody. "this morning we began investigating an abduction in which a female was abducted by a male, were able to recover her from the scene. she is alive. we were also able to take that person into custody and question him " police say grates then admitted to a different murder, telling police he killed another woman in june and left her body in the woods. the ohio bureau of criminal investigation
