washington high school in cedar rapids. mary beth haglin violated a no-contact order with a student she says she had a relationship with. that's according to court documents. this is a still of video from the website "crime watch daily." it shows haglin at a cedar rapids strip club talking to the student. the website says haglin now works at the strip club. haglin is supposed to go to trial in november for sexual exploitation by a school employee. longt result of the investigation into haglin's relationship. the district said he mishandled that investigation. activities director mike johnson also stepped down as a result of the investigation. the iowa division of criminal investigation has released the names of the officers who fired their guns, killing a man. officers jeremiah white and ashleigh steil responded to a domestic

that's where they found markell bivins, who police say had stabbed a woman multiple times. they shot and killed him. authorities didn't explain what prompted them to shoot. the woman is expected to survive her injuries. both officers are on administrative leave, per department policy. the new york police department says officers shot and killed a man who attacked another officer with a meat cleaver. they say officers confronted then chased akram joudeh yesterday afternoon. police initially because he was trying to take a boot off his car. when joudeh pulled out a butcher knife and cut a detective, another officer shot him. one witness says he saw the chase only a block from madison square garden. "cops, 7 or 8, undercover and some uniformed, rolled up on him with guns and told him to get down. he wasn't cooperative, he kind of just looked frazzled at first " officials say they have arrested joudeh more than a dozen times in

student says the school didn't respond the right way when she told officials another student sexually assaulted her. now, she's suing the university. the lawsuit says university leaders discouraged the 21-year- old from formally reporting the assault. it happened in 2014. she says the school took months to investigate, then put her and her abuser in the same housing complex the following semester. that's why she dropped out. supporters are signing an online petition to fire an iowa sentence for a wapello county man. kraigen grooms pleaded guilty to lascivious acts with a child, who was one, earlier this year in wapello county. grooms is 19. judge randy degeest gave grooms a 10-year suspended sentence and five years of supervised release monday. he must also register as a sex offender. a post on a website called 'the petition site dot com' is gaining signatures asking to remove

a cedar rapids woman has reached major milestones in her recovery, after a crash that almost killed her. kelsey cummings was driving on zika avenue on the northwest side of cedar rapids in march of 2015. she says was almost home when she hit a patch of ice, and crossed the center line of traffic. she hit a hollow pipe gate, that went through her lower body. cummings told t-v nine that she had a drink earlier that evening but says she wa cummings was in a wheelchair for about a year after the crash. this past march, she had hip replacement surgery, and has since been able to walk with crutches. cummings says she's now focused on being a mother. " 21:39 "basically just stay busy with my kids and focus on them, it really helps takes away from wallowing in my thoughts about what happened " because the pole was on city property, cummings says she's considering legal action against cedar rapids. c-r-s-t is celebrating the

rapids. the trucking and transportation company has been working on its 11- story, 37 million dollar building for four and a half years. it's on first street southeast, right along the cedar river. the top eight floors will be offices for c-r-s-t, bankers trust, r-s-m accounting, and holmes murphy and associates insurance firm. the bottom three floors are parking. c-r-s-t says it's happy to now be part of downtown cedar rapids. "by coming downtown, we're hoping to revitalize the vibrant and larger. and because we think that helps the community. cedar rapids casino, but it's a lot different from the one that failed in 2014. wild rose casinos is teaming up with local developers for a "boutique" style casino. it would go up in a parking lot next to the skogman commercial real estate building across from the doubletree hotel. it would be a smaller casino than what the one that failed in 2014. this one would be a 40-million dollar project- a quarter of the cost of the previous casino plan in cedar rapids. that one failed because the state feared it would feed off of other existing "what i'm hoping when the study comes back it'll let us right size this and it won't be as impactful to riverside and the isle of capri." the wild rose proposal would employ between 200 and 250 people. the iowa secretary of state's office wants more young people to vote in the upcoming presidential election. secretary of state paul pate announced a new initiative yesterday to work with 38 of iowa's colleges and universities to

social media on campuses and bigger efforts for voter registration events. there are more than 300-thousand college students in iowa. in johnson county, officials have been working on getting young people to the polls for years. they plan to put early voting sites up all over campus starting next month. " we're doing a lot of satellite sites out at a lot of campus, dorms, different buildings, law building. " early voting starts september of people file those absentee votes early... because that makes for a much smoother election day. iowa's department of education wants to know whether it's making the grade when it comes to nutrition education for iowa students. it just announced it's using a 498-thousand dollar federal grant to study 20 schools over three years. the goal is to come up with better plans for healthy schools statewide. the project will focus on how

campaign has not yet released a specific location. as congress continues to discuss funding options for zika, some doctors have created their own solution. doctors at a philadelphia- based lab are testing a zika virus vaccine approved for human trials. researchers are reportedly testing the vaccine on 40 people. one doctor says what makes this vaccine different is that it's entirely synthetic.
