one of the two black boxes was not working and the engineer does not remember the crash. here's the report from hoboken. >> reporter: for the first time the engineer's account of what happened in the moments before the train full of commuters crashed, killing one person, injuring 114 others. he looked at his watch and noticed the train was about 6 minutes late, arriving at hoboken. he said when he checked the 10 miles per hour when enter the station track. >> reporter: thomas, the 48-year-old engineer, said he has no memory of the accident, only waking up on the floor of the cab. another setback in the search for answers? this event recorder recovered from the back of the train was not working. >> we want to get in and get the exact speed of the train. >> reporter: new jersey transit had been under investigation by the federal railroad administration for the past five

good morning, i'm ryan smith in for kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here's the top headlines this morning on "world news now. donald trump is getting both criticism and praise after leaked documents show he could have legally paid no federal income taxes for 18 years. with the next debate six days away, hillary clinton is pouncing on the revelations, so will it a full report coming up. stunning setback for the president of colombia after voters rejected a deal to end the country's 52-year civil war. a cease fire is in effect, but consults leaders who opposed the agreement. police in paris investigate after kim kardashian was held in her hotel room by masked gunman. she was in paris for fashion week, and she is unharmed, but badly shaken by the accident.

celebrate the jewish new year, customs in the two-day festival including the sounding of a ceremony horn and eating special foods. it ends tomorrow night, and those are the stories we're following today on this monday, october 3rd. from abc news, this is "world news now." we begin this half hour with reaction to donald trump's leaked tax returns. >> documents obtained by the "new york times" show how a staggering loss in a could have been transformed by trump into huge tax benefits for nearly two decades. your voice, your vote, mary bruce reports. >> reporter: the "new york times" reveal fragments of donald trump's state tax records from 1995. reportedly showing more than $900 million in losses. the deduction so large it could have allowed trump to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. the newspaper says the paperwork
