are busy preparing for the heavy wind and rain hurricane matthew could bring. often empty and people are lining up for blocks to fill up at local gas stations. norwalk native lindsey bembli lives near st. augustine, where the storm is expected to hit this afternoon. she says right now she is not planning to evacuate, but is keeping a close eye on the news just in case. " i have never been through a real hurricane. we have seen a couple tropical depressions, but this one is a pretty big storm. it's supposed to come back up to a category 4. so i am a little nervous about that. destruction to south florida since hurricane andrew in 19-92. the flood waters that creeped into homes and businesses is out -- but mold could linger.. as kcrg tv9's samantha myers tells us, some standing water can lead to mold and other health problems can quickly follow. linn county public health is reminding people to take precautions when being around mold. moisture and 24 to 48 hours for mold to start growing. ruby perin a supervisor with linn county public health says the best way to detect mold is just seeing it for yourself. mold removal and cleaning are important. exposure to mold can lead to asthma attacks... ...allergic reactions and eye and skin irritation. it can also cause infections in people with weakened immune systems. even dead mold spores may cause allergic reactions in some people. while families are working to remove what's left of the flood waters, the sandbags are still here, thousands of them. a group of mount mercy university students has decided to turn some of those bags into reusable doing it for a school project. they've partnered with nonprofit groups which will take care of the stitching and the logo printing. the hope is to save some of the bags from the landfill and give people a piece of history from the flood. the students plan to create several thousand handbags by christmas from the more than 250,000 flood sandbags that volunteers packed in the cedar rapids area two weeks ago. " our goal is to get at least one percent of those bags turned into reusable bags. it would be about 2500 is the goal

new global climate agreement a "turning point for the planet." countries from around the world formally ratified the paris agreement yesterday. the agreement commits rich and poor countries to take action in trying to stop the rise in global temperatures and cutting carbon the deal will be worth the time and effort.
