a man who a cedar rapids police officer shot yesterday that they're hopeful he'll slowly improve. jerime mitchell, who is 37, remains in critical condition at university of iowa hospitals. police say he got into some kind of altercation with an officer early yesterday morning on coe road northeast. that caused the officer to fire his or her weapon,

of criminal investigation is looking into the shooting. police say there's dash cam video, which is one of the things the d-c-i is reviewing. president obama says the u-s army corps of engineers is looking into whether the company building the bakken oil pipeline can re-route a portion of it in north dakota. the president says the move could alleviate some of the concerns of the standing rock sioux native american tribe. ongoing the construction of the pipeline. the tribe fears the pipeline will threaten drinking water and destroy sacred sites. the texas company, dakota access, is building the pipeline from north dakota to illinois, with part of it going through iowa. it say it's not aware of any plans for a new route in north dakota. and it says it's confident it will get permission to finish building the pipeline according to the original plan. coming up next in sports, scott will have his weekly conversation with iowa coach kirk ferentz. and the hawkeyes bring back
