morning hours. a person of interest has spoken with police in mississippi about the torching of a black church. arson destroyed hopewell missionary baptist church in greenville tuesday night. the words "vote trump" were spray painted on the building. authorities say a man spoke with them on wednesday and on thursday. detectives say he came in voluntarily. more than $200,000 has been raised to repair the church. in afghanistan dozens of civilians were killed during a joint u.s./afghan raid targeting the taliban. now officials are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong here. some of those civilian casualties may have been caused by air strikes backing up afghan and u.s. troops under fire. now, the targets of the raid, two senior taliban commanders, were killed along with 63 other insurgents. two u.s. soldiers were killed in separate incidents. the battle for the city of mosul is intensifying. iraqi troops have begun their assault into more urban areas to force out isis.
