the 46-year-old urbandale man spent the night in polk county jail. he is being held without bond until he goes before a judge at 8:30 this morning. a des moines police chief says he thinks there was no justification for the killings. "i won't try to reason or make sense of this, this is calculated murder, there's no if ands or buts about it. it was cowardly in every sense of the word, from the way it was carried out to the way it ended. " police say greene ambushed des moines police sergeant anthony beminio in separate attacks early wednesday morning. greene turned himself in about 8 hours after the shootings. a search dog found the 22- caliber rifle that police say greene used. both des moines and urbandale police said people in their cities are struggling to comprehend all of this. ""nobody deserved this. tony and justin did not deserve this, the des moines police dept. and the urbandale police dept. did not deserve this, the communities that we protect and represent did not deserve this, but most importantly, there are two families that have

we've also learned that a judge ordered scott greene to be out of his mother's home just hours before the attack. court documents allege he committed elder abuse against his mother by hitting her and financially exploiting her. family has announced funeral arrangements for officer martin. visitation is from 4 to 8 monday at the south calhoun middle school will be at 11-40 tuesday morning at the middle school. governor branstad has ordered flags to fly at half staff on the days of sergeant beminio and officer martin's funerals. police expect to announce funeral arrangements for sergeant beminio sometime today. " i cant even imagine. this is the only thing i know. i want you guys to be hydrated and not hungry/ i want you to go home to your families, and i want my dad to come home... urbandale officer justin martin was killed. she says she went to the grocery store and grabbed items she thought the officers could use. the emotional interaction between bach and a des moines area police officer following wednesday shootings has touched people all over the world... the video now has over nine million views. bach says there are some things she thinks people can take "to be kind to be helpful, because any little step...will make a world of difference..and i just wish and pray that people will just be kind.. " bach says her emotions were especially intense because her own father is a des moines police captain. a close friend of scott greene says the attacks were completely out of character. ronald williams jr. says he was friends with greene for 26 years.

the 44th academy includes graduates from the cedar rapids, north liberty, and tipton police departments. others will graduate from the cedar rapids fire department and the department of corrections. today's ceremony is at 1 p-m at the ushers ferry historic village lodge. non-profit groups helping people who are homeless in dubuque are picking up the slack that one group left behind. back in july, project concern closed its doors. kcrg tv-9's allison wong tells us how these organizations are filling the gaps. "allison wong - united way of dubuque noticed gap project concern left. so it's working to help fill those gaps." the united way gave the group, east central development corporation, a grant of 20-thousand dollars. that group has taken over a program that project concern once provided. one that helps people find permanent housing. "amanda hohmann, case worker, ecdc - we use the housing first model where we put them, we get them housed and then look at the support services the help maintain the housing." support services include

"allison wong - united way of dubuque is also partnering with operation new view to continue the foster grandparent program, which pairs elderly with low-income kids. in dubuque, allison wong, kcrg tv-9 news." two people died in a violent crash on county home road - north of cedar rapids - yesterday and 3 others have life- threatening injuries. the crash happened around 4 p-m yesterday at the intersection of county home road and north troy road. that is about two miles east three vehicles were involved in what was apparently a chain reaction crash. the linn county sheriff's office says a pick-up rear-ended a car, pushing that car into another pick-up. 5 people were in the car -- that was the second vehicle. 2 people in the car died and the other 3 are now at uihc with life-threatening injuries. the drivers of the 2 pick- up trucks were not injured. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. family members say the man cedar rapids police

37-year-old jerime mitchell during a traffic stop near coe college early tuesday morning. police say there was a struggle and the officer fired a weapon, hitting mitchell in the neck. a brother-in-law told tv9 mitchell is in critical condition. but he was more alert and watched the world series on t-v wednesday. a family spokesperson says they are not endorsing any protests or public vigils connected to his case. governor branstad and lieutenant governor kim reynolds were among hundreds to attend a rapids last night. they talked with up-and- coming entrepreneur s and encouraged them to pursue their ideas at the iowa accelerator event. afterward, six teams gave a pitch for their businesses. those plans ranged from a fashion line to making bicycling safer. two new parents and cubs fans are happy their little bundle of joy was born close to the world series. now, they're honoring their team through their baby's name. rizzo would be a cool name
