iowans heading to the polls between 7 this morning and 9 p-m, some other questions could remain. if you're trying to locate your polling place, you can find it on the secretary of state's website. in iowa, you can register to vote on election day with a driver's license or photo i-d with proof of address. and officials encourage voters, but do not require them, to vote for every issue on the ballot. "8;30 you can vote for any race or no race you want. do you have to fill in every oval of every race, so say you have to vote straight party? you don't. -8;38 " illegal to take selfies at the ballot box, and you're not allowed to talk politics with other voters. eastern iowans will also get to pick 3 candidates to represent them in washington d.c. that includes a senate seat where six-term republican incumbent chuck grassley is up for reelection. his challenger is democrat patty judge. in iowa's first congressiona l district, which covers cedar rapids, waterloo and dubuque, one-term republican incumbent rod blum is

vernon. iowa's second district is southeast iowa, including iowa city and davenport. five-term democratic incumbent dave loebsack is facing republican christopher peters. voters in linn county also have a chance to reduce the size of the board of supervisors from 5 members to 3. people supporting the change say it would cut costs in the county. kevin kula started circulating the petition a year ago. he believes the board members are overpaid for the now, the pay for each supervisor is more than $103,000 dollars. if voters approve the change, the county would also have to redesign the districts each supervisor would represent, reducing them from 5 to 3. supervisor amy johnson opposes the change. "when you have five supervisors, um you have people representing people in all those small towns of linn county. ya know-central city, palo, prairieburg. and i think people in those towns would really suffer if they didn't have their voices heard through a representative." we reached out to kevin kula

he did not respond. if the ballot issue passes, the terms for all 5 supervisors would be up by the end of 2018. people in marion will vote on a referendum today on how to elect their city council members. right now, the city has 3 at large council members and 4 ward council members. but the entire city is allowed to vote for all 7 counl people elect 1 member from their own ward, plus the 3 at-large spots. voters in iowa city can decide on a measure that could lower the number of signatures needed to bring future initiatives and referendums in front of the city council. current code says at least 25% of the number of people who vote in the last city election has to sign the document. if this measure passes today, it would lower that number to 10%. today, we hope you'll stay with t-v 9 for election

city. we will broadcast the funeral live on kcrg 9.2 and on kcrg.com. this comes after those close to des moines police sgt tony beminio laid him to rest yesterday. yesterday, people filled the lutheran church of hope in west des moines for sgt. beminio's funeral. he was the other officer killed last wednesday in the attacks. the 11-year veteran of the des moines police force leaves behind a wife and 3 children. he was also an eastern iowa native -- part of the class of 1996 at iowa city west high school. police chief told people sergeant beminio wasn't just good at this job, he was great at this job. "45 if god could handcraft the perfect police officer inside and out, he would look just like tony. command presence oozed from his pores. but his size and strength were just a small part of who he was. he was intelligent, organized, creative, and detailed. district is frustrated after she says her child is the victim of abuse. a marion police department investigator n she wants to remain anonymous. police told her they're investigating a high school helper for inappropriate ly touching students in her child's class. the school didn't notify her, and she wants other parents to be aware of what's happening. "your child may not be a victim, your child may not even know about the situation, but don't you have the right to know who is in your school? who's in your child school, who's interacting with your children." we reached out to marion police

didn't give us many details. no one has been charged. we also reached out to marion independent school district. in a statement, the district says... "we are aware of some allegations regarding improprieties that may have occurred in one of our classrooms. the matter has been turned over to the police department for investigation". the mount vernon school district and mount vernon police are investigating a misconduct case involving a high school employee. the superintenden t says the district learned about a o on wednesday, the district placed the employee in question on administrative leave pending a review. on friday, the district sent a statement to staff, saying the case involves allegations of misconduct from the 2014 - 2015 school year. today the principal told students the high school is now looking for a substitute teacher. no other information is available yet. beware of what you read on social media today.

protesters are overwhelming the morton county court system in north dakota. the county held a special session yesterday -- especially for 51 protesters arrested last month. out-of-state attorneys are assisting protesters through the legal system. most are facing county says the flood of cases is requiring everyone involved to be flexible. ""it's forcing us to stay on our toes, certainly. we are scheduling hearings with multiple judges trying to fit them in where we can." " the next appearance for protesters is currently scheduled for the second week of january. a georgia community is in mourning today following a shooting that killed one police officer and left another badly wounded.
