in oelwein now say an over-heated chicken roaster started the fire that destroyed their building. the family is now picking through the wreckage of the more than 50 year old restaurant. the fire happened late saturday found heavy flames in the kitchen, which quickly spread to the ceiling. the building is a total loss, but no one was hurt. kcrg-tv9's jordee kalk reports on how the family is trying to find bits of their history amid the damage. jordee: now the family of luigi is planning to come out to this site today to rummage through and see anything salvageable. really family just tells me they are looking for things that could be memories of this restaurant. 44:10, "some of the items we might want to save are under layers of debris." on monday, stasi family from across

investigators think the indianola man was a hoarder. they say his belongings were piled to the ceiling. " investigators say the fire appears to be accidental. they say the home didn't have working smoke detectors. des moines police are investigating a case of racial vandalism at a southside apartment complex. kirsten grant found the words "white power" in sunday afternoon. she is bi-racial and worries that someone did this as a result of the presidential election. grant says she's lived here with her family for more than a year and was never targeted until this incident. "i think it's pathetic stop it! are you serious! that's all you have to say, stop it? " last week, drake university suspended 4 students for putting racial slurs on the dorm room door of a hispanic student.

sudanese-american family. amar samel and his family - who are muslim - found this message late friday night. the note told the family to quote "go home now" with derogatory terms and used the hashtag trump. samel say his family contacted police, but an officer never showed up to their home to take a picture, or get a statement. but since news of the note, neighbors have left flowers and baked goods for the family. there are now messages of support on the sidewalk for his neighbors' support and feels like his family belongs in the community. yesterday, a few dozen more people joined the gathering. some said they're worried about what they call president- elect trump's rhetoric. but they also add they're against protestors causing disruption and destruction. drop off location in marion. the antioch christian church is a new drop off site for operation christmas. you can donate shoe boxes full of toys, school supplies and basic hygiene items. the church hopes to collect two thousand boxes. the items will go to kids in mexico and the republic of niger. the church says a small gift can go a long way.
