the competition for stores to grab customers first is high. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders joins us this morning live from lindale mall. forrest, how many people are out shopping this weekend? nicole, according to a survey conducted for the national retail federation, around 137 millio doing their shopping this weekend. that includes online and in- store shopping. last month, the national retail federation forecast more than 655 billion dollars in holiday sales. that's an increase of 3 point 6 percent compared to 2015. black friday deals can make these long lines worth it. but before you venture out, be prepared. two tips experts are recommending to all shoppers this year... set a budget, and stick to it. and make sure to save a place for your receipts. and nicole, some stores like

"our corporate office decided the best opportunity for lindale was to be open tonight to provide shoppers with another opportunity to get the best sales, deals and door busters. i think it lessens the craziness that we see on black friday so it just starts a little earlier on thanksgiving night," mall workers say the crowds they saw last ig were comparable to what they've seen in previous years. organizers of a free thanksgiving meal at the house of hope in cedar rapids say the first year was a success. members of the christian-based women's ministry say this was their first thanksgiving meal for the community. they say it came together in a short amount of time, just a couple weeks. ""we really just wanted to open it up to whomever. it could be anyone, you, myself. anyone who doesn't have a place to go for thanksgiving." " organizers say they might make

one of america's favorite tv moms passed away away. florence henderson starred as the ever- cheerful carol brady in "the brady bunch." reps for the television icon died say she died in the hospital. she was 82. the brady bunch started in 19-69 and became a huge hit in syndication and led to a number of spin-offs and movies. she also competed on abc's dancing with the stars. explosion, explosion explosions ripped through the rubble of storage buildings at a central city business. investigators this morning are still trying to determine what sparked a smoky fire at a recycling facility. the reports of the fire came in at eight yesterday morning. numerous departments responded to the business, just off of highway 13. the flammable materials inside triggered several explosions. authorities say they took one firefighter to the hospital with what was described as a "life- threatening" medical issue. the

point six billion dollars back in january. it's a busy time of year for holiday travelers. but one man in the moline airport hopes passengers have a moment to spare. those traveling through the quad cities airport this weekend will probably see bobbie bassett, the shoe shine man. he's been shining shoes for the past 27 years. and doesn't plan on stopping any time soon. "it makes you feel good that you take pride in your work and that they understand you did a good job. it makes you feel bobbie says he learned how to shine shoes when he was just a little boy in downtown davenport. it was weeks and months of practice for two eastern iowa marching bands. but it all paid off when they both hit all the high notes in a major thanksgiving parade. but right now, here's a look at

saturday: partly cloudy. high: 39 low: 24 thanks kaj. two eastern iowa marching bands had the honor of performing in a big parade yesterday. struttin' up the road here is the mount vernon high school marching mustangs. 65 memb scott weber. music plays mount vernon's band was in chicago's mcdonald's thanksgiving parade. the band made its way through a mile long route through downtown. this was their third time in this parade. also there performing yesterday morning... 68 members of the williamsburg high school marching band. they found out they were playing last year. that's because each parade takes more than a year and a half of planning. this

with her family this morning after three long weeks. as yasmin amer reports, police are now starting another search, this one for her alleged kidnappers. a family's prayers answered. 34-year-old sherri papini was

missing on november second.while jogging in northern california. police say she had been freed by her captors and left on the side of the road in yolo county. that's about 140 miles from where she was last seen. according to police, papini freed herself from restraints...and flagged down a passing motorist. days after she went missing...her husband keith papini broke down as he spoke about what it was like to live through this nightmare. "it's the worst thing in the world...it's the worst thing ever." community members who helped search for her were overjoyed at the news. it was just a rush of relief a lot of tears.and realizing it was over in the best possible sense." but officials say it's not quite over. shasta county sheriff tom bosenko says the alleged kidnappers are still at large. "we're looking for a dark colored colored suv with two hispanic females armed with a handgun." police don't know the identities of the two women...and they still don't have a possible motive. but for papini's family...all that matters is

president-elect donald trump spent thanksgiving with family at his palm beach estate in florida, but he was still busy. trump tweeted, "working hard, even on thanksgiving." he is trying to keep the carrier air conditioning company from moving jobs to has had discussions with the incoming administration. but says it isn't ready to make an announcement . the company previously announced plans to move 14-hundred jobs to mexico from indiana. the green party presidential nominee jill stein is now challenging the election results. she's raised nearly four million dollars in her push for a vote recount in michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin. that's following reports that voting security experts

"the fact that it has basically funded itself overnight reflects the incredible hunger out there among the american people to actually start doing something positive and to start creating an election system that we can believe in." donald trump claimed pennsylvania and wisconsin on election night, giving him the electoral votes he needed to win the white house. but michigan remains too close to call, more than two weeks after election day. bakken oil pipeline protesters switched several mandan, north dakota streets shut down yesterday morning while people protested those celebrating thanksgiving. law enforcement monitored the two hour protest and arrested two people. according to the morton county sheriffs department, there were no serious injuries. one native american protester says most people don't understand why the holiday is difficult for him. " the protest did break up after demonstrator s learned their cars were going to be towed. authorities in louisville, kentucky are investigating a deadly shooting at a kids sports festival. "the juice bowl" brings parents and kids together for a series of thanksgiving day football games in one of the city's parks. police are now trying to figure out who fired shots close to the games. two men died and four hospital. they're expected to survive. dwight mitchell, louisville metro police - "when officers did arrive, they located two black males who apparently had been shot and had been fatally wounded and were pronounced dead here at the scene. so far this year, louisville police are investigating more than 100 homicides. now for a quick check on your weather with
