thanks britley. new orleans police say a man died following a shooting in the french quarter. it happened around 1:30 a.m. one block from the busy canal street. thirty police officers were already nearby due to a college football game. superintendent michael harrison said police arrested two people for illegally carrying a firearm. " ten victims were shot ranging from ages 20 to 37, 2 females, 8 males, one of whom has expired at the hospital. " police are still investigating

one police officer remains in the hospital after a deadly crash on i-380. two people died in the accident yesterday morning near downtown cedar rapids. " officer struck up on the interstate. pd southbound. first ave west. rollover as well " an officer was parked monitoring traffic after a minor crash... that's when another officers were injured, and two people in the other vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene. kcrg-tv9's phil reed spoke with a couple who say they saw the whole thing happen. matt langguth and his girlfriend chelsey merchant were on 380 heading home from a night out when they saw the deadly crash. "right before they hit, i seen them kind of spin out of control kinda. like they were going towards the guard rail, then over corrected and went straight into the officer's vehicle

help them after making sure the officers were alive, they checked on the people in the car that hit police "i tried breaking the window out with my foot, with my foot. i couldn't break the window out, so i asked the officer for the night stick. the officer came and broke out the back window on the driver's side. and i crawled through the back windows, and when i crawled through the back windows, i saw the two bodies " langguth says there wasn't anything they could do to help them "you couldn't se then i looked at the female, but her face was pretty bad, and you could tell they wasn't alive " police and firefighters stayed throughout the morning re-routing traffic as crews worked to clear the scene. while this couple tries to clear their mind from saturday morning. part in pushing for recounts in several key states. campaign officials said they had not found any evidence of hacking voting systems. that comes after green party candidate jill stein filed for a recount in wisconsin, friday due to "statistical anomalies". president-elect donald trump won that state. stein raised millions of dollars for recounts and plans to file in other states. trump responded with a statement saturday. it said in part, quote "this is a scam by the green party for an election that the results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what jill stein is doing." in an interview for cnn, the green party presidential nominee responded to the accusations. she invited donald trump's campaign to participate in a "people- powered effort to ensure the integrity and the security of the votes." " he may be creating his own facts here, as he's been known to do sometimes in the past. and

said that it was a rigged election, unless he won it. happened yesterday morning near downtown cedar rapids. the officer was stopped due to traffic control following a minor crash... that's when another vehicle hit that squad car from behind. a couple we spoke to saw the whole thing, and tried to help. "we ran over to the other car to see if we could even pull them out or save them, and it was pretty much to the point of they weren't able to be saved because of how crushed the car was " two officers were injured, but the two in the other vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene. police had to block traffic for hours. saturday brought a tearful goodbye for one of the victims of the chattanooga bus crash. loved ones shed tears at the funeral for nine- year-old cor'dayja jones. she is one of six children who died monday. children's pastor moriah stanley says - her presence will be missed. " she was the most genuine child you could ever meet. you

man - they leave everyone smiling? and they just say it? for cor'dayja they really meant that. " saturday's funeral service was filled with song after song. hundreds of family members and friends said cor'dayja was a friend to all. meanwhile, records released by the school district show students and administrators had raised concerns weeks before the crash. one student wrote "the bus driver drives fast." another said the driver made sharp turns that bounced riders. the driver is charged with the u-s army corps of engineers plans to close off land where a large group of bakken oil pipeline protestors are camping. the chairman of the standing rock sioux tribe says he got a letter from the corps friday. it says authorities will close land north of the cannonball river after december 5th. anyone still on the land will be trespassing and subject to prosecution. a protest organizer says many people are building shelters and plan to stay put. the pipeline is set to go

worried the line will contaminate drinking water and disrupt native lands. at least 33 pipeline protesters are facing criminal trespass charges. police responded just before one o'clock,friday, to a report of about 100 protesters at the kirkwood mall. that's in bismarck, north dakota. mall officials asked protesters to leave the private property. officers arrested those who didn't cooperate. a day after the arrests more than four hundred people rallied to support police. swept the liberty memorial bridge. organizers say the rally isn't pro or anti pipeline. "pro-community. we want our communities back. we want unity. we don't want division." some residents at the rally say federal and state agencies need to intervene with pipeline protests. as the death of fidel castro brought out cheers from cubans in miami, one cuban refugee living in iowa is also rejoicing. adele vazquez collignon is one

refugees who escaped castro. he left his family behind in cuba, but is now married and has two kids and four grandchildren. "in cuba, i remember growing up, and you couldn't even say the word, castro"you cannot say, 'we want democracy." vazquez-collignon officially became a u.s. citizen two years ago - something, he said, is one of his proudest moments. a group from the city of waterloo after they say an abused dog died. protesters say the city didn't do enough. kcrg-tv9's samantha myers has the story. dozens stood outside of this waterloo home saturday. holding signs, demanding answers. 22:59:19;03 "it's infuriating, it's absolutely infuriating it hurts." they say they called the city and animal control for six weeks after finding out a boxer was left chained up in

the city attorney tells tv-9, authorities will continue looking into the situation. early this week. the cedar rapids police department is putting out a call for help. it's looking for new officers. the department is accepting applications through january 12th. the hiring process takes months to complete. an agility test and written exam happen on february 4th. polygraph screenings and tests go through mid- march. you can download applications from crpd's website or you can pick them up at police headquarters. many went to shops throughout eastern iowa

started six years ago as an effort to get more people spending holiday dollars at local businesses. many businesses throughout eastern iowa capitalized on the day including raygun. the shop in cedar rapids saw a bunch of people yesterday. workers there say it was double the amount of customers compared to an average saturday. while online shopping continues to get more popular, one raygun employee says a day like this proves people still value shopping in person. "it gives me a sense of community. people want to come out to support us, support local businesses. and it just shows that th i is not taking over with all the cyber deals. people are still willing to come out and shop " more than 95 million people participated in small business saturday last year. that's up 8 percent from 2014. thanksgiving came and left. now many are getting into the christmas spirit. saturday in boone, families hopped aboard the train for santa's scenic valley ride. on the ride, there was hot

sergeant says raye pointed a gun at him, but police have not found a weapon. "having been a police officer for 28 years, i know that this job is not easy and the decision to use force is extremely complex and must be made in seconds without the benefits of formal reviews and deliberations," said supt. johnson in a statement on saturday. "however, based on the little information we know at this point, i have concerns about this incident and feel this decision is in the best interest of the department and the people of chicago as we await a methodical and impartial investigation into exactly what transpired." police say the sergeant had given chase, thinking raye matched the description of a battery suspect. police say raye was shot point a gun at the pursuing officer. but no gun had been found at shooting scene. outside the 7th district police station on saturday, activists gathered calling for change in policing in the black community. "you can put five or six black superintenden ts if you don't change the policy, if you don't change the procedure you will have the same problem that we are faced with today. another young life that has been wrongfully taken," said mark wallace, a radio host on wvon. attorney jay payne told the sun-times friday he is representing the family and planned to file a civil rights lawsuit in u.s. district court on monday against the cpd and the sergeant who shot raye.
