the scene is now secure. the columbus fire department says two of the seven hurt are in stable condition. the condition of the other five is unknown. ohio state university warned students monday morning of an active shooter on campus. they were advised through a series of tweets to run, hide or fight. it is not immediately clear if the shooting is still in progress. the trial of a former cedar rapids substitute teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student started today. charged with sexual exploitation. she allegedly had a relationship with a 17- year-old washington high school student in early 2016 while she was working at the school. kcrg-tv9's dave franzman was at the courthouse for this morning's trial and joins us now. dave, trial began and ended in just 20 minutes? brea, that's true for at least the public portion until the judge makes a ruling. the judge says he's likely to

the time today was spent making sure haglin understood what she was giving up by allowing the judge along to make a decision. both sides agreed the judge would decide haglin's guilty or innocence only using the minutes of testimony. that's information the public will never see and typically is only used by prosecutors to justify bringing charges. in this case, the minutes include an interview with the victim by child protective services and a police interview with haglin. the judge explained what the defendant was "opening statements, closing arguments if you agree to a stipulated trial then that means my decision will be based on information that the parties agree i should use to determine if you are guilty or innocent...do you understand that?" because the judge will make the decision on information filed by prosecutors, nothing haglin

decision. so the charge against her will be the original aggravated misdemeanor instead of the felony count filed later. that's important for haglin because conviction of the felony sexual exploitation charge could have meant up to five years in prison. an aggravated misdemeanor carries only up to a two year term. there are possible fines as well and the judge plans to announce his ruling in open court and he thank you dave. waterloo police are investigating a shooting that injured a teenager. officers say he had gunshot wounds to the hand, side and backside. 17-year-old tyran collins underwent surgery at unitypoint health-allen hospital. officers said his injuries don't appear to be life threatening. police say no arrests have been made. 1-shot two cedar rapids police officers hurt in a deadly crash on i-380 are out of the hospital today. cedar rapids police haven't released the names of the two people killed in the early

morning crash. the officers were stopped for traffic control following an earlier crash. that's when another vehicle hit the squad car from behind. authorities pronounced the two people in that vehicle dead at the scene. police blocked southbound traffic for several hours. evansdale is working on draining the meyers lake to keep it from becoming a swamp. the funds come from resource enhancement and protection grant. the 75 thousand dollars will be used to to improve the shoreline. evansdale mayor doug faas says he wants to make it and check out a relief conduit for damage. more people are visiting meyers lake in recent years. that's due to the city building angels park there. an island in the middle of the lake was developed as a memorial to remember lyric cook and elizabeth collins. they were two evansdale cousins last seen in that area in 20-12. hunters found their bodies in southern bremer county later that year. no arrests have been made in the investigation.

the state harvesting about 57-thousand trees a year. according to bill northey, one-point-four million dollars comes from people buying christmas trees from farms. many say picking out the tree is a family tradition. " we've been doing this since we were little kids. my dad and my mom started it a long time ago and we've just continued it with my dad and my step mom." amazon says thanksgiving is actually becoming one of the biggest days for shoppers using its mobile app. more than 154 million shoppers took advantage of those thanksgiving deals. the iowa flood center says its new floodplain maps will help cities and those living in flood prone areas know what to expect. the iowa flood center is hosting a presentation to share its new mapping program this afternoon. today's presentation starts at one at the university capitol centre in the flood of 2008 pushed the iowa flood center to partner with the iowa department of natural resources. that partnership created and updated floodplain maps for the entire state. the program took six-years and 15 million dollars to complete. veteran in north carolina is searching for relief from p-t-s-d with an unusual therapy. we meet the veteran and explain how flotation therapy works. stay with t-v

report, i'm david geiger. ---- canadian ranchers under a federal quarantine are worried they'll be broke by spring.. a group of farmers.. representing 30 ranches in alberta.. say they need to be able to sell their cattle or get compensation in order to stop a financial disaster.. after the discovery of bovine tuberculosis that has shut down their facilities.. cattle in the fall.. but have to hold and feed the cattle under quarantine.. one rancher says the food costs will destroy them.. the federal canadian food inspection agency has confirmed six cases of bovine tuberculosis.. an estimated 18 thousand head of cattle are in quarantine.. ---- every year.. the u-s-d-a invests money into research and science in agriculture.. in 2015.. that investment made two hundred 22 inventions.. 94 patents.. and

hospital officials say eight patients they received from the scene of a reported attack at ohio state university have non-life-threatening injuries. officials say one suspect is dead. we're taking a live look at ohio state university right now where.. officials now say the scene is now secure. ohio state university warned students monday morning of an were advised through a series of tweets to run, hide or fight. the linn county board of supervisors took a step towards conserving parts of land across the squaw creek corridor. they announced this morning they purchased 485 acres of land near highway 13 and mount vernon road. and that's where we join kcrg t-v 9's phil reed. phil who did they buy the land from and how much will it cost them? they got it from sutherland

the county paid 7. 2 million dollars to get it. that will make this area here available for public parks, trails and recreation. the boards of supervisors say 1.5 million of the local option sales tax will help pay for it. they will cover the rest of the cost by issuing bonds, using some of their reserve money, and selling some of the land at the creek that they won't use. that could be up to 150 acres. the city of marion partnered with the board of supervisors to bring a water treatment facility there that officials say will save them money. "this is to divert water that they're sending to the cedar rapids waste water treatment plant and paying for it. they will be able to do it on their own through a natural process. and that will help with their overall sanitary sewer cost." that facility will take up about

professionals want patients and their families to understand some of the main differences between the two. each year millions face chronic illness and search for relief. five years ago tim patterson was one of those people. he was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disease. the disease left him in serious pain, which kept him away from doing the things he loves. 44:47"if you know you use to do that same thing all the time and now you're cut off that's what really really hurts." patterson was told he would experience kidney disease, diabetes, and nerve pain. knowing that, he and his wife kathy looked into their options. now a palliative care team helps him manage it all. sot "42:36if i can keep comfortable that's all i'm asking. what time i have left, i'd just like to do it as pain free as possible. that's why they are so very important to me." pain is just one portion. it

trouble sleeping. palliative nurses say the biggest goal is to focus on the quality of life. "18:50how do we best care for you, and really kind of getting down to those specifics with patients and families, by establishing those goals and then we kind of know how to best treat them going forward." patterson was told it will be a slow process, but along with the team, his wife says she will be there every step of the way. "39:45i've had so much comfort in knowing this team tim because i fully realize i can't take care of him myself." "40:51love is looking at what you're dealing with, communicating with your spouse about his wishes, and then doing the best you can to make that happen for him." november is reserved as a month to bring awareness to both palliative and hospice care.

sanctuary in cedar rapids will stick around for at least a few more months. the nonprofit in czech village helps support local musicians and artists. final totals aren't for sure yet for the concert on saturday night, but officials think they raised between 600 and one thousand dollars. that'll help keep the facility open in the coming months. it had been struggling with high overhead costs. artisans sanctuary also had to close down and remove its recording studio because of this year's flood. none of the equipment was damaged but the group lost money while closed. would have been-- financially, it would have been tough. but, thankfully the community did come out.
