guard rail on the s curve. the vehicle then rammed into the back of a police s- u-v. as tv9's samantha myers reports, those close to watson say they don't know how his daughter will react to the news. the mother of the woman martrell watson has a five year old daughter with says it was like losing her own son. watson lived with her family since he was 13. she says he had a special bond with his daughter marianna. they haven't told her yet to wait until his family comes from illinois. " 12:49:02;26 "i think any child that grows up without a father impacts them tremendously. i think it's just going to be very sad for her especially it's a christmas, thanksgiving holidays this is going to be a sad memory now every year around a holiday that's supposed to be happy and family oriented." for watson on thursday. they'll decide on funeral services at a later date. in the newsroom, samantha myers, kcrg- tv9 news. kaitlyn hall's mother says she's just trying to stay strong for her 2-year-old granddaughter. heather hugh says the child is too young to understand what happened. she says she's remembering kaitlyn as someone who loved to sing and dance. as she gets ready to bury her daughter on sunday, hugh says she's planning for her granddaughte r's future. ""i'm just gonna have to give her the best life that i can. we family. she'll have more parents then she is going to want."" odie's bar and grill in ely, where hugh works, held a fundraiser for the family yesterday. they are continuing to take donations. friends and supporters will raise money today for a man cedar rapids police shot and seriously injured. on november first, officer lucas jones pulled over

men got into some sort of altercation. jones fired his gun at mitchell who was still inside his car. mitchell's family says the shooting paralyzed him. linn county supervisor stacey walker will talk at the benefit tonight. it's at the african american museum in cedar rapids from five until nine tonight. the money will support mitchell's family. the unitypoint clinic urgent care facility in cedar falls is set to move to a new location. the new facility will open at 5100 prairie parkway and will be available for patients 7 from 8 a-m until 8 p-m. the urgent care clinic will offer walk-in and after-hours care for non-emergency situations. other clinics, like family medicine, o-b-g-y-n, and a pharmacy will open at the facility within the next 6 weeks. foster and adoptive families open their hearts and homes to hundreds of children each year in iowa. according to iowa kids net, 400 people in the area are creating safe, permanent connections between kids and families. but the group says that's not enough.

looking for more families? chris and nicole, they're looking for homes from benton county to the missouri state line. that area includes 16 counties across iowa. there's 160 families in linn county and 71 in johnson county. but there's still a need for more foster and adoptive families. lisa metzler has five children, and her youngest two are adopted. armando is 14, and tristan is 7. b "35:14that's kind of the area, where we felt we were kind of called to do. to kind of take care of those kids who might have those needs, where other families might not be able to or be willing to do that." since 2000, the metzlers fostered more than 50 children all while raising their biological three. "37:00they've just kind of grown up having kids in and out of the house and i think it's been really a good experience for them to see what their life is like, compared to what other kids have

started in the foster program. they've been in the family since they were babies. metzler says its rewarding to see how far they've come. for those looking to adopt or foster, iowa kids net says the best advice is to start now. "43:29it's not really hard to do, but it does take time. you want to make sure that you're making a good decision for your family and we're making a good decision about what the best for you guys." for those looking for options, there's plenty of resources across eastern iowa. "44:48there's no stigma ab giving your child the best life for them or helping them find a family that could be a parent for them is amazing." the metzlers are an example of an open adoption. both tristan and armando's families are still in their lives, which just gives them more adults to love and support them. fostering under this story on kcrg dot com. for the first time, a donald trump cabinet nominee met with a member of congress on capitol hill. iowa senator chuck grassley met with with the president-elect's pick for attorney general yesterday. jeff sessions is a republican senator from alabama who sits on grassley's senate judiciary committee. in the meeting, grassley praised sessions connections. " he knows the justice department well, not only from serving on the judiciary committee and having oversight and policy for that depar long relationship as a u.s. attorney and other positions within the department of justice. " grassley says the panel plans to hold a confirmation hearing before the inauguration on january 20th. a judge has fined a waterloo man $750 and ordered community service for illegally voting in the 2012 presidential

in waterloo with felony records who faced charges for illegal voting. many of the defendants said they were confused and believed they were eligible to vote. the 2nd finalist for president of the university of northern iowa is someone who's very familiar with the campus. today, he's meeting with people around u-n-i. jim wohlpart is already serving as u-n-i's interim president. he was previously the university's provost. yesterday afternoon, the first finalist, neil theobald, attended a president of temple university in philadelphia. more than $130,000 dollars is going to help provide healthy meals to seniors in eastern iowa. with your help, the heritage area agency on aging raised that money during our fill the plate telethon. the organization offers meals at several dining sites and delivers meals to seniors who are home bound in seven counties in eastern iowa. and if you want to volunteer to help, you can do that on our website, or contact heritage at 319-398-5559.
