has issued a deadline for demonstrator s to leave a north dakota bakken oil pipeline protest site. but protesters say they're going to ignore the december 5th deadline. yasmin amer has more. after nearly five months of protest, officials are turning up the pressure...tel ling demonstrator s to leave now or face the consequences. but neither the official warnings nor the howling winter weather seem convincing. department warned protesters tuesday that they'll start blocking supplies and people from entering the campsite. a spokeswoman for the department later clarified that they'd only stick to punishing trespassers. members of the standing rock sioux tribe...who originally filed the lawsuit against the pipeline...say they're not budging. "this pipeline pipelines exist today, that were built through your 2 dakota access pipeline protesters, who chained themselves to construction equipment in iowa, are now in custody. law enforcement in pilot mound made the arrests yesterday after a group of protesters ran past security to the construction site. pilot mound is in boone county. 2 of protesters chained their wrists together inside of a p- v-c pipe, wrapped in chicken wire and tar. firefighters cut the pipe. a state patrol plane

"we fully understand the risk of every direct action we take...and we are willing to take those risks and put our lives on the line because we deeply believe water is life therefore we must do everything in our human capacity to protect it " the des moines river is the one of the last sections of the pipeline left to complete in central iowa protesters are focusing on that spot. the pipeline will cross through 18 counties in iowa when it's finished. a head-on crash near hudson seriously the black hawk county sheriff's office says 25-year-old jean okwo tried to pass a semi. this was in the one thousand block of hudson road around 8:15 yesterday morning. okwo's car hit a truck going in the opposite direction. the crash seriously injured both drivers. police cited okwo for unsafe passing. investigators in colombia this morning are looking through the wreckage of a plane crash that killed 71 people. the initial reports of 75 people killed went down as

passengers' list. the plane was taking a brazilian soccer team to a match when it crashed into a hillside. investigators say the flight crew reported an electrical failure. a pilot familiar with the area says it would have made the trip especially dangerous. "if you are on battery power you don't know where you are 6 of the 77 people on the plane a judge found a man not guilty of charges from a deadly fight in galena. james peters had faced involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated battery. peters was accused of punching another man - 57-year-old brian friede - at murphy's convenience store in may. friede later died from his injuries. a prosecutor say the two brothers accused of

in 2010 across 5 states, including iowa, had rigged even more drawings and planted software to let them fix even more games. the trial for former lottery computer technology official eddie tipton is in february. his brother tommy tipton, of texas, goes to trial in january. they're charged with ongoing criminal conduct. prosecutors say eddie tipton hid a false number generating program on lottery computers. that helped him fix the games -- netting him more than $2 million in winnings. attorneys for the tiptons say the state can't prove the ch cedar rapids police say burglars may be targeting a different kind of valuable this year. police say burglars are taking checkbooks from homes, cars and businesses. the number of counterfeit and forgery cases in cedar rapids is up from 171 through mid november last year to 306 so far this year. several eastern iowa police departments caught thousands of dollars worth of fake bills early this year. cedar rapids police say that accounts for the early increase in counterfeitin g cases. but later,

today, speakers including mayor ron corbett and the super school president will talk about the new learning space. they will also talk about the different opportunities for cedar rapids high schoolers through the organization. officials expect at least 200 people at the event in the newbo district. it takes place is from 5 to 7 p-m. the moment a child in foster care finds a long-term home can mean a fresh start... and a better future. iowa kids net needs more people to create that special moment for hundreds of kids in the state. kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us. month, how is iowa kids net recognizing the month? well chris and nicole, the organization is putting a special emphasis on the one thing it always needs more of--foster families. last year, 400 families signed up to be foster families or adopted children. but 500 children needed a home. iowa kids net goes through 16 counties in iowa. this is one example of a family in the program. it starts up near benton county and goes to the missouri border. officials say the bigger

agency on aging partnered to raise thousands of dollars to fill the plate. we got the total back late last night that yesterday's telethon raised $132,066 dollars. all of that money will go towards helping senior citizens who don't have easy, regular access to meals. the heritage agency's senior meal program fills that void by delivering some meals to home-bound seniors and offering food year, that totaled more than 320-thousand meals for seniors in need. the telethon may be over, but you can still help out. we have a link on how to volunteer or donate to heritage on our website. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. we have learned the city of coralville approached trader joe's about putting in a store after years of people asking for one. trader joe's announced earlier this week that it would open in the iowa river landing district sometime in the second half of

died in a crash on i-380 say they trying to help their children understand what happened. 21-year-old martrell watson leaves behind a young daughter. so does his passenger, 22-year-old kaitlyn hall. hall's mother says the couple was also expecting a child together. watson was driving an s- u-v early saturday morning when it hit the center guard rail on the s curve. the vehicle then rammed into the back of a police s- u-v. as tv9's samantha myers reports, those close to watson say they don't know how his

watson has a five year old daughter with says it was like losing her own son. watson lived with her family since he was 13. she says he had a special bond with his daughter marianna. they haven't told her yet what happened because they want to wait until his family comes from illinois. families. lisa metzler has five children, and her youngest two are adopted. armando is 14, and tristan is 7. both of them have special needs. "35:14that's kind of the area, where we felt we were kind of called to do. to kind of take care of those kids who might have those needs, where other families might not be able to or be willing to do that." since 2000, the metzlers fostere more than 50 children all while raising "37:00they've just kind of grown up having kids in and out of the house and i think it's been really a good experience for them to see what their life is like, compared to what other kids have to go through." armando and tristan started in the foster program. they've been in the family since they were babies. metzler says its rewarding to see how far they've come. for those looking to adopt or foster, iowa kids net says the best advice is to start now. attorney general yesterday. jeff sessions is a republican senator from alabama who sits on grassley's senate judiciary committee. in the meeting, grassley praised sessions connections. " he knows the justice department well, not only from serving on the judiciary committee and having oversight and policy for that department as a senator, but he has had a long relationship as a u.s. attorney and other positions within the department of justice. to hold a confirmation hearing before the inauguration on january 20th. the 2nd finalist for president of the university of northern iowa is someone who's very familiar with the campus. today, he's meeting with people around u-n-i. jim wohlpart is already serving as u-n-i's interim president. he was previously the university's provost. yesterday afternoon, the first finalist, neil theobald, attended a forum on campus. he is the former president of temple university in philadelphia.

companies like unitedhealth group. and no thanks to the declines in energy companies. the final figures are in for how much cyber monday shoppers spent. people spent $3.45 billion dollars. that's a new online record. adobe digital insights said year compared to 2015. people also spent 34% more while shopping on their mobile devices. it was still $130 million dollars less than what people spent on mobile devices on black friday. consumer confidence is now at the highest level since july of 2007. the conference board announced its index is now at 107-point-1. officials completed the survey before election day, but a sample of post- election responses show the outcome did not affect optimism.

first team selection by the coaches and second team media.. last years jim thorpe award winner desmond king was a unanamous first team selection at defensive back.. even though they did throw at him a lot when they did it was a mistake and he made them pay..desmond also second team on returns.. and the leading tackler in the big 10 josie jewell was a second team selection at linebacker by the coaches and the media.. ron coluzzi was named third team punter and parker hesse greg mabin and nathan mention. some sad news to pass along.. one of the greatest iowa high school football players of all-time jerry moses senior died today at the age of 63. moses was a two time all state running back at waterloo east in 69 and 70. he also played for the cyclones but his college career was cut short by injuries.. his son j.j went on to be a star player at iowa state. our condolences go out to the moses family. the high school basketball
