protesters demanded a meeting with board members to address their concerns over possible violations of construction permits. "none of us want to do this but this is apparently what we have to go through just to have a meeting with publicly appointed officials. " the spokesperson for the board says they're in the middle of a lawsuit over the pipeline. he says that's why they won't address the protesters face to face. "the board issued their final decision and order on this case back in march and that's being litigated, so we can't comment on ongoing litigation. " the board says it responded to questions by the end of the day, but protesters still want a face-to-face meeting. both of the protesters arrested were fasting and holding signs in front of the i-u-b offices for the last ten days. today people around the country and in eastern iowa will mark the 28th annual world aids day. the goal is to make people more aware about preventing h-i-v and aids, as well as the advancements in treatment options. health

infected with h-i-v. today, university of iowa students will read aloud names of people who lost their lives to aids. this is video from a past reading of the names event. the johnson county public health department is also offering free h-i-v testing today. that's from 8:30 a-m to 3:30 p-m at the iowa city public library. tonight, a dubuque school committee will talk about using a controversial book in future curriculum. some parents have an issue with the book "the perks of being a wallflower". it's required reading for students at hempstead high "graphic sex scenes" and depictions of drugs and alcohol use surprised them. since the last meeting, the committee has read the book to better judge its educational value. tonight's open discussion starts at 5:30 at the forum. that's on 23-hundred chaney road. a program that provides high-school students with real-world experiences wants to double its reach with a new school in marion. iowa big made that announcement last night at its open house in cedar rapids.

schools. and it's made possible, in part, because of a $1 million dollar grant. that grant came the x-q- the super school project, which promotes a different type of learning. school leaders are now working to find a location for the new school. "20:46, "were looking for a place in marion that brings adults into the space as well as opportunities for the students " the new school will open next fall. the third finalist for the president's job at the university of northern iowa will visit campus today. h the chancellor of a school in montana. mark nook holds that position at montana state university in billings. the other two finalists are interim u-n-i president james wohlpart and former temple university president neil theobald. the iowa regents plan to select one of them for the job next week. eastern iowa is seeing a growth in urgent care centers. that's part of a national trend according to the american academy of urgent care medicine. a new urgent care center opened in cedar falls yesterday. and another will start

urgent care clinics that open each year in the u-s. and more than 9,000 centers have opened in the u-s since 2008. the center say the goal is to give more people an alternative to going to the emergency room. but they say that - even after opening the first urgent care clinic earlier this year - the same number of patients are still going to the e-r. the hospital says more patients want urgent care because it's faster. when unity point finley opened this urgent care clinic back in august, they number of patients visiting the e-r. "what we believe is happening is patients who've had to go outside our local community to get health care in order to get access. " brandon says patients living in dubuque have been traveling to places like waterloo or cedar rapids. that's just to be treated for something like a sore throat or a sprained ankle. the hospital's hope is those patients will now stay closer to home for care because they can get in to a doctor a little easier.

some people are protesting in charlotte, north carolina, after hearing that a police officer who fatally shot a black man won't face charges. a district attorney cleared officer brentley vinson, who is also black. he shot and killed keith lamont scott back in september. police say scott was armed with a gun but family members dispute the claim. last night, people took to the streets to protest the decision not to charge the officer. some chanted "stop killing black people," as they walked through the streets of charlotte. weather with meteorologist britley ritz.
