"newsline." i'm shery ahn. central bank governs of a group of 20 nations ended the first day of meetings friday. they discussed measures to prevent the european debt problem from becoming a full gloen global crisis. the meeting attended by representatives from both industrialized and emerging economies.

japan has sent finance minister and bank of japan governor. they expressed concern about recent european moves. a participant said unless euro zone deals with the situation promptly, the economy of emerging nations will slow down and a global economic crisis may follow. ministers from european countries said all euro zone nations agreed to reinforce the emergency fund known as european financial stabilization facility. they also plan to raise capital by using public funds to stabilize the management of financial institutions. the second session of the two day meeting is scheduled for saturday. before the meeting, the governor said he will urge them to take prompt measures to help banks get through the credit crunch by boosting their capital.

>> translator: if the measures are delayed, the economy will remain sluggish. we want them to make a push with their moves. >> citing japan's experience in the banking crisis in the 1990s, he expressed hope they will act promptly. experts from the international atomic agency are in japan, advising the government on how to clean up contamination caused by the fukushima nuclear accident. on friday, the team of radiation experts submitted a 12-point report to japan's environment minister, goshi hosono. the iaea team recommends decontaminating areas where high levels of radiation have been detected. since their arrival a week ago, the 12 experts have inspected decontamination work in

fukushima prefecture, which is being carried out by both central and local governments. >> translator: the iaea says japan's decontamination efforts are going in the right direction. >> he added that ongoing clean-up operations will incorporate recommendations from the iaea report. after submitting their report, the iaea team held a news conference. they touched on the japanese government plan to decontaminate areas where annual radiation exposure reaches one millisievert. >> one millisievert criteria is a real challenging criteria, but it will be achieved. the only thing is that you need time to do that. >> lentijo also said that most of the soil removed by decontamination work contains low levels of radiation and the possibility of human exposure is low.

he suggested there is no need to be overly concerned about radiation exposure. the japanese prime minister and the russian prime minister have spoken for the first time. they agreed to promote cooperation in the energy sector. noda and putin spoke by telephone friday. putin said russia hopes to keep working with japan by supplying it with electricity and liquefied natural gas. noda said he hopes an lng plan that japan and russia plan to build will soon be a reality. putin also says he hopes the japanese will approve an agreement on nuclear energy that japan and russia signed in 2009. noda says he expects the agreement to be discussed during the next session. noda hopes to work with putin

towards resolving the dispute over this island. retail sales rose 1.1% last month. the market had been expecting arise of six-tenths a percent. september retail sales came in at $395.5 billion. sales of automobiles and related parts up 3.6%. sales of clothing up 1.3%. department stores and discount shops saw sales rise by .7%. and gasoline sales up 1.2%. we spoke with the chief analyst at barclays capital. >> retail sales for september

were quite strong. it led us to revise higher forecast for third quarter real gdp growth. we look for annualized gross 2.5% where we previously looked for 2% growth. we think that's because gasoline prices have come off significantly from the peak, that's given more money for households to spend on discretionary items. we think this is quite critical that gdp is improving notably in the second half of the year. we think the retail sales report really underscores that. >> that was dean maki, chief u.s. economist at barclays capital. the british ceo of olympus was fired after six months on the job. olympus told a news conference friday a motion to remove him was approved unanimously by its board. it says his style caused

confusion in the company. the chairman will take over as president and carry on as chairman. woodford became president in april after managing olympus operations in europe. japanese automaker suzuki and german automaker volkswagon accuse each other of violating a partnership agreement. >> translator: suzuki sent a notice to volkswagen explaining reasons to dissolve our business and capital relationship. >> he told a news conference friday that volkswagen has failed to honor an agreement that requires the german car maker to give suzuki access to hybrid and other key environmental technologies. the two automakers formed alliance in 2009 but are now fighting over whether they should terminate their partnership contract. later friday, volkswagen denied
