hello, and welcome to "newsline." the death toll is rising from the floods in japan. five people are confirmed dead and five are missing.

three women in their 70s died in hiroshima. one was swept away by floodwaters while the other two were caught in landslides on wednesday. a mudslide destroyed a house on thursday night in gifu. two men and one woman died. in another city, cars are reported to be stuck drifting in floodwaters. three people are unaccounted for. in a shimane prefecture a landslide appeared before dawn on monday. a mother and her two children were trapped. police and firefighters rescued a girl who had suffered a broken leg. the mother and her son were found unconscious but later died. toyota motor plans to build its second assembly plant in brazil to strengthen the business and emerging economies.

the japanese auto giant said on friday that it will spend about $600 million for the construction of the new plant. the factory will be capable of assembling 70,000 vehicles a year, mainly low-priced compact cars for emerging countries. toyota said the construction work will start in september and that the assembly lines will be up and running by the second half of 2012. brazil's economy has been growing fast, even after the world was hit by the financial crisis. toyota is trying to catch up with other automakers in making inroads into emerging markets. the company has started building assembly plants in china and india as well. the court upholds a terrorist sentence. the supreme court rejected the

appeal against a high court ruling that found her guilty of hostage, attempted murder and others. the french ambassador was among others taken by three red army extremists acting under her orders. the high court ruled that she played various key roles in the terrorist attack. she long evaded arrest but was finally detained ten years ago. organ donation is sometimes called the gift of life, but some countries around the world are giving more than others. japan lags far behind other nations when it comes to organ donation. since the law took effect 13 years ago, there have been only 86 organ transplants from brain-dead people. the government hopes to change that statistic by changing the

law. as of saturday organs from brain-dead people can be used unless those individuals have filled out a donor card refusing to participate. if they don't have a card, their families can provide consent. under the old law the organs of brain-dead people could not be used unless they gave consent in a donor card and the families provided their approval. the new law scraps the age restriction. organ transplants from brain-dead children older than three months will be permitted. the law is designed to increase the number of organs available for people that need them. an nhk survey suggests it might not be such a quick fix. nhk sent a questionnaire to 347 medical institutions and a

critical centers in japan. all of these facilities are registered to provide organs from brain-dead donors. 245 of them responded. the survey asked if they will provide organ transplants from brain-dead don ors once the law goes into effect on saturday. only 84 said they would do it for children. facilities that said they cannot provide organ transplants for children were asked to give reasons. 71% said they do not have the systems in place to declare children brain-dead. 38% said they do not have adequate emergency care systems for children. 17% said the burden would be too

activity stopped. the mother eventually agreed to do nate the boy's organs. >> if you are told your son is brain dead, please offer his organs soon. most parents would not be able to cope with that. the child would look like it is sleeping. if we parents declare our child's death on our own, if we put an end to life support, we would feel that we have killed our loved ones. she doesn't regret her choice. his life has been passed on to the recipients. >> our view of life and death or religious beliefs in japan goes

a long way back. in that sense, we might have to change our mind sets to make organ transplants from brain dead people a part of our principle medical treatments. >> doctors are never allowed to make mistakes when they are announcing brain death. from now on, they also need to so that organ transplants will gain greater acceptance in the country. >> many have yet to express their willingness through cards or papers to donate the organs. medical systems will need to be in effect after the law starts on saturday. japan's space agency

estimates that launching another asteroid probe will cost about $180 million, about 20% more than its predecessor. the japan aerospace exploration agency plans to launch of the next probe in 2014 to carry out research on the origins of life. they say the unmanned probe would reach an asteroid four years after launching, take rock samples possibly containing organic matter, and return to earth in 2020. the agency says higher costs are necessary to enhance the spacecraft's reliability. funding for the project was drastically reduced by the government following screenings last year. the agency says they have delayed the project. it wants to advance to the development phase this year to launch of probe on schedule. the u.s. congress has given

final approval to the financial regulatory reform, one of the obama key policy goals. the legislation will put in place the most dramatic system since the 1930s. the senate voted 60-39 on thursday. it was passed by the house of representatives of last month. this is to avoid a recurrence of the financial crisis. it includes an oversight of the banks and authorities. they also create a new federal agency to protect thefinancial . the bill also imposes limits on financial institutions and dealing with high-risk products. >> good afternoon. the united states congress has now passed a wall street reform bill that will bring greater economic security to families

permits. earlier this week, thailand opened a new center to verify the nationalities of foreign workers it's a move aimed at reducing the number of illegal immigrants in the country. more than 35,000 people have already had their obligations processed. after getting the papers, they are allowed to work for two years. the indian group has been the fifth currency in the world to get its own symbol. a special panel chose the symbol. the information and broadcasting minister unveiled the symbol in new delhi on friday. the new symbol is a combination of the roman letter without the stand. the symbol will come into use within six months in india.

right now. sustained winds are 12r figures right now. rightig kilometers per hour. we're really worried about the rain as well. it's been a very, very active rainy season across so as this storm moves further closer, we worry abou well as flooding because some areas pick up over 200 more millimeters in a 24-hour span. we have heavy bouts of rain across the korean peninsula and into central, eastern, and southwestern china. we have some recent footage coming out of provinces. let me show you this right now. what you're looking at here is a controlled explosion of a dam. we have had water levels so high that they were threatening nearby villages, so authorities had to blow it up to relieve the water pressure here. elsewhere people are racing to build sandbag barriers in a bid to control floodwaters. it has been such a rainy, rainy last few weeks and months across china. since the beginning of july ion floods have killed over 100 people. 59 are still missing as of yet and tens of millions have been

displaced or affected. that's pretty much the story over the next couple of days as well. you can see heavy, heavy bouts of rain with the concentrated areas of blues and purples. we've also had as we mentioned earlier today significant flooding across parts of japan. luckily these should ease up. we don't see as much heavy rain as we had earlier this week. hp moves in and we have high temperatures over the weekend. here's what we expect in tokyo on saturday, 32 degrees, 35 in shanghai and 31 in hong kong. we have incredible heat across central and eastern europe, but there is relief in the way of this system right here actually. we have a very strong, windy system. that frontal line comes across norway into france, and as this
