people pinning their hopes on a controversial scientific experiment may be disappointed. a leading japanese research team says it has been unable to find evidence that so-talled stap cells exist. the team published papers in january. they claimed they found a way to reprogram mature animal cells into embryonic-like stem cells. they said they could then be turned into any type of tissue. they called the phenomenon stap. they said the stap cells could be produced but many scientists around the world reported they were unable to replicate the process. on wednesdays officials released a report on verification experiments they have been conducting since april. the team includes a co-auther of the papers.

the papers said the cells were taken from a newly born mouse. the cells were soaked into a solution for 25 minutes to provide stimulus. on day three, the genes that didn't die off began to activate. pluripotency is the ability of a cell to transform itself into or kinds of tissue. on day five the cells began to form clusters. and on day seven, they became embryonic cells. the team members repeated the experiments 22 times. but they say they could not find the early stage phenomenon in which genes related to pluripotency began to activate. >> >> translator: we haven't produced any stap cells yet in the method we used so far. >> they will continue to conduct the experiments until march.

they will conduct verification experiments separately through the end of november. the researchers say they also want to gather data on what the rezermers are posting on social media like twitter. they plan to share the results with regional governments and business people in related industries.

winds. those often fire up thunderstorms. look at the past month. what we have been seeing is above-average rainfall. the area in the green and blue, that's indicating where the locations that have been seeing rain above average. it has been resulting in flooding. the forecast looks grim. we are seeing more showers. let's look on the ground at one of these refugee camps where you have 40,000 people who are displaced due to the ongoing civil war in the area. the floods forcing these residents to live in poor health and sanitation conditions. you can see a lot of the tents submerged. they live here because it's one of the only places they feel secure. the tents are inundated. on top of that, there's a food shortage because of the flooding. nutrition and famine is another problem. we are looking forward as we go through the next several weeks

out here. definitely not good news. i want to pull back and look at the weather across the rest of the world. what we have been seeing across europe, it's blustery conditions. rainfall across the low countries, along the western seaboard. you will see gusty winds. you can see the lines close together. that's high waves for you. back towards the east looking at reports of tornadoes into western russia due to this storm system. it has been making things unsettled out here. the cold front diving down towards the south, we have seen 6 kilometer per hour wind. things are continuing to stay on the cool side. showers in warsaw. stockholm, at 18. let's move over to the americas

where we are continuing to see the swirl on the satellite picture. that's going to be firing up rough weather for those of you across the central plains looking ahead into your thursday. then eventually into the weekend, i know it's labor day, you have outdoor plans here across the great lakes. well, be ready for that threat of some thunderstorms if you plan on going out and about. this is going to continue to develop and charge off there towards the northeast bringing strong cells with it and also traveling across this area is going to be a slow go. the other thing this has been doing, it's pulling in warm air from the south. we had this cool down in chicago over towards toronto. the temperature is going to rebound back into the high 20s, possibly the low 30s. things are going to warm up. it's going to be hot and muggy out there. let's wrap things up here into eastern asia. showers in the forecast. south of that, a weak tropical depression. i don't expect this to become a named storm system. it will bring rainfall towards northern vietnam. you can see a threat of flooding, even into the philippines bringing showers for you. ending here with japan, well, some light rain showers across the country here on your thursday. but temperatures are staying on the cool side. tokyo with only a high of 23.

divers jump in to the ocean. they are collecting the debris of life washed away by the tsunami in 2011. this must be fishing gear. during the three years since the disaster, volunteer divers have been collecting the debris piece by piece.
