the library is brand new and paid for but the vote is about keeping the lights on and the doors open seven days a week. the levy would mean a tax of 23 dollars per year on a 150 thousand dollar home.david tominsky one of those leading the effort says there's a lot at stake. "i think it would be a shame to have a building like this sitting empty , sitting empty on a day of the week when i think our community probaby needs it the most cause it might bea sunday sunday afternoon when families could be visiting in the ibrary that might not have the option that would definitely be a shame." shame."there hasn't been a lot of vocal opposition so the low turnout so far

we'll know after the polls close tonight at 8. the library vote aside, 14- communities in linn county are now. county auditor joel miller says with the tax issue and all the council races, he expected a lot of voters to show up at polls.but so far, fewer people are turning out compared to 20-13. miller says the nice weather is one less excuse for people to sit at home and perhaps voters are just getting to the polls later this evening. while there are fewer contested races this year, miller says it's important to put the election into perspective. "these are smaller turnout elections you know the good news is a school election probably will produce six times more people but less that will show up to a

testimony is now under way in the trial of nicholas luerkens. luerkens.he's the 33-year-old man charged with first degree murder for the stabbing death of lyndsey donald outside the marion hy-vee grocery store

back in april.cbs 2 news reporter dora miller is following the trial trialand she's live right now courthouse. testimony from hyvee employees and the surveillance video were the main focus during the trial. trial.employees who worked that day were emotional on the stand as they recalled seeing nick luerkens car circling around the parking lot before he allegedly attacked donald. that ten-minute surveillance video showing luerkens approaching donald and her falling to the ground, moments later we see multiple people stopping to help. some employees testifying that the scene was chaotic and it was "very apparent she was dead." the jury also watched another video -- this time it was dashcam video of the first marion police officer on the scene. we could hear luerkens yelling that he didn't want to go to jail forever and that he wanted to die. the first office on the scenealso testified about what he saw. today.it's been six years since the passing of the affordable care act.clinton told voters about how the law has worked so far and why she believes the u-s should not move backward on the issue. "18 million americans now have access to healthcare that didn't before and we can't start this debate all over again." again."clinton says there are aspects of the law that need improvement such as reducing out-of-pocket prescription drug costs and allowing patients living with pre- existing conditions to still receive coverage. in dubuque, ohio governor and presidential candidate john kasich says a balanced budget is a top priority for him should he become president. president.he spoke to a crowd of about 50-people earlier today at loras college.kasich is tied for sixth among republicans in a recent poll conducted by n-b-c- news. kasich also touched on the topic of medicaid and his

ohio.he said he doesn't have all the facts, but is supportive of governor branstad's privatization plans in iowa. on that subject at the state capitol right now.. now..a legislative over-sight committee started hearings today to look over governor branstad's plan to privatize iowa's medicaid program.for months, critics have voiced concerns over a number of things, including the administration's projected savings and how the change will affect patients and their ability to pay for care.the governor insists--the switch will streamline service and save iowa money.but, the deputy director of the department of human services admits privatizing iowa medicaid is still very much a work in progress.
