in marion, marion,mayor snooks bouska announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election.so three men were looking to take his place, including two current members of the city council council there were also a pair of council races in marion. incumbent kim etzel faced a challenge in ward one. one. in ward three, current council member cody crawford did not seek re election.

in iowa city... city...incumbent rick dobyns faced a challenge for his council seat in ward a. a. turning to ward c, this was a wide open race between newcomers scott mcdonough and john thomas. thomas. and finally, in the at-large race, two incumbents were hoping to hang onto their seats.. seats.. in black hawk county... county...waterloo voters are electing a new mayor .five men and women were seeking to become the city's 40th mayor. but we will not find out who won the race tonight.quentin

but *not enough to prevent a runoff vote against former waterloo mayor tim hurley.the winner, which will be determined in a december 1st runoff, succeeds mayor buck clark, who is stepping down after six years on the job. in cedar falls,long-time mayor jon crews is seeking a 16th term.he was challenged by cedar falls school board memeber jim brown and david halterman.mayor crews did *not* get the most votes tonight.this race will also likely go to a runoff race. in dubuque dubuquethere are a pair of city council races with incumbents facing challenges. beginning with karla braig in ward 2.. 2.. and in ward four, incumbent lynn sutton was facing off against jake rios. rios. we are following more than 170 races all across eastern iowa.

cbs 2 news ten at ten corridor's top stories. stories.more than six months after a marion woman was murdered in broad daylight, the trial against the man now underway. attorneys delivered their opening statements today in the case against nicholas luerkens. luerkens.he's accused of stabbing lynnsey donald in the marion hy-vee parking lot back on april 21st. 21st.cbs 2 news reporter dora miller has been following this case and has more on the first day of testimony, dora? emotions were high in the courtroom as the jury -- and family members -- watched a 10- minute video of the stabbing. we also heard from employees who tried to help donald that day. day. you could hear every sniffle in the courtroom as everyone watched lynnsey donald lay lifeless in the marion parking lot.a video shown to the jury on tuesday afternoon displayed the horrific crime committed by nicholas luerkens. luerkens. he had stabbed himself." luerkens is charged with first degree murder but has pleaded not guilty-- claiming he was insane or had diminished capacity at the time.if he's convicted he'll face a life sentence with no chance of parole.dora miller, cbs 2 news ten at ten one person is recovering tonight after being shot by a waterloo police officer. officer.according to the waterloo cedar falls courier, it all started at about three this afternoon when police tried to pull over a van near wellington streets. streets.the van sped off and the chase ended when the driver pulled into a driveway on south hackett road.police say the driver got out of the vehicle and ran into a garage where he was shot.the iowa d-c-i is now investigating the case. the victim of a bus assault in johnston, is now speaking out.a warning, the video you're about to see can be hard to watch for some. some.61-year-old robert scarbrough is charged with assault after causing injury and child endangerment.

in johnson county, more than four-hundred high school students turned out for the county's high school career fair.more than 25- businesses set up looking to hire them.teachers leading the students say often they don't think about the opportunities that exist.this is the very first year for the high school career fair. in iowa city, a store that made headlines after opening a year ago is now going through another transition. today, co-owner and former n-f-l player nate kaeding tweeted tailgate clothing company has been sold to american eagle. the des moines register reports that the plan is to open as many as 200 new stores.the 11-million dollar deal gives american eagle a hand in the widely- popular college apparel market. a marion house on the move, will soon be causing traffic problems.the home will move from 29th avenue to 24th avenue.city leaders tell cbs 2 news, a rolling road closure will be in effect until the
