a verdict has been reached in the trial of nicholas leurkens. leurkens.just about 90 minutes ago - the jury announced leurkens was guilty of first degree murder in the stabbing death of lynnsey donald in the marion hy-vee parking lot in april. april.cbs 2 news reporter dora miller has been following the trial from the start.she joins us now live from the linn county courthouse.dora, what can you tell us? us?a first degree murder charge carries a sentence of life without the possibility of parole. that sentence will be handed down early next year. as for luerkens family, his mom and sister were visibly upset after hearing the verdict. after sitting through a week of evidence, videos and testimony, the donald family seemed pleased with the outcome of the trial. we caught up with the prosecutor and the marion police chief after the verdict was handed down, they both said they were glad the jury considered all the evidence and went with first degree charges. but probably the statement we all

unless wolfe stepped down.this morning - wolfe fought back tears as he announced his resignation. my motivation for making this decision comes from love. i love m-u; columbia, where i grew up in the state of missouri. i have thought and prayed about this decision; it's the right thing to do. the response to this announcement, i'm sure ranges from joy for some to anger for other and that's why we're here today. today.wolfe said his resignation comes after both sides of the issue stopped listening to eachother.he also noted unusual tactics from protestors - including one student who went on a hunger strike.there's been no word yet on who will serve as interim president while the school searches for a new president. two americans have been killed in an attack at a police training center in jordan. jordan.it happened early this

morning near that country's capitol.officials say the attacker was a jordanian police captain, who was also killed in the shooting.another victim was from south africa. at least six others were also wounded, including two more americans.president obama addressed the attack this morning.he said the united states will work closely with jordanian authorities to figure out what happened. authorities are searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting outside of a des moines night-club. night-club.early sunday morning - officers were called to the bar on the city's north side for a report of a big fight.as they got there - gunshots were fired.one person was killed, three others were taken to the hospital.officers say there were several hundred people at the scene.nobody has been arrested yet. in new york city - authorities are searching for suspects in a fatal shooting at a bus station.one person was killed, and three others were wounded. police believe a 43-year-old man was behind the shooting. but they say three men were witnessed running from the scene and leaving in a vehicle.

police have blocked off the bus station and re-routed lines while they investigate. in fayette county... county...a person had to be airlifted after a crash late last night.around 11-30 sherrif's deputies found a sideways car in a ditch in the 16-hundred block of lincoln road north of fayette. fayette.deputies believe the driver lost control of his vehicle when he swerved to miss a deer.zachary sedo of wisconsin was taken to a hospital in west union and then airlifted to another hospital.so far - there's no word on his condition. in cedar rapids this week... week...there are some traffic changes becauce of the state volleyball tournmanent.from now until friday - fourth ave south-east east of third street-south east will be open to two way traffic.signs are posted and attendants will be directing traffic to help motorists out.the changes are to help manage visitor parking and people who pay for monthly parking downtown. in waterloo... waterloo...the city is warning residents against giving infants tap water.

water.waterloo water works says a well on east dale street had a nitrate level above what it allowed. officials shut down that well on friday and will keep it closed until nitrate levels are safe again.nitrates can cause health problems for young kids, especially infants. we'll learn more this week about future plans for cedar lake.tomorrow night - a meeting will be held to discuss what a study found can be done about the area.on thursday - an open house will take place so the public can look over future plans and give their input.friends of cedar lake is the group behind the effort.they hope to present a final plan for cedar lake to the public in january. the university of iowa will soon be offering free mumps shots to students under 25. 25.tomorrow will be the first of five opportunities to get the shot this month.more than 100 cases of mumps have been reported in the last few months.if you're interested, go to the iowa memorial union main lounge from 10-a-m to 7-p-m. unity-point is expanding on cedar rapids' west side. side.right now - the plan is

president obama is meeting today with the israeli prime minister. minister.benjamin netanyahu made his way to the white house earlier today.this is the leaders' first face-to-face meeting in more than a year.they're expected to talk about american military aid to israel following a recent wave of

"carson will be back on the debate stage tomorrow at the next republican debate.he's been polling very well lately, coming in first in some national and iowa polls. and second in others behind donald trump. inmyanmar - voters appear to have made a landmark decision. the national league for democracy has reportedly won 25 of the 28 seats in that country's parliament.while there are still a number of ballots that still need to be counted - the current ruling party has declared defeat. a region of spain is declaring independence.lawmakers in catalonia have approved a plan in which the area would seperate from the spanish government by 20-17.catalonia is spain's most north-eastern area and shares a border with france.the spanish prime minister isn't happy about the development.in the past - he's vowed to take legal action against catalonia's parliament if they were to appove plans to suceed. the world bank says climate change could push more than 100 million people into extreme poverty by 2030.that's according to a report released over the weekend.the report
