"i'm like they called the police on my daughter?"mother lakeisha hayes says she immediately panicked after a phone call from a police officer at her daughter's school. school. "he was like yeah she wouldn't move out of her seat so i grabbed her and had to force her into the office." that prompted her to drop everything and check on her daughter. daughter."when she comes - her hair and tears crying so i'm like talia what happened to you?"her daughter taliya says she was attacked after a misunderstanding over lunchtime seating in the cafeteria of the johnson steam academy. academy. "i wouldn't move so he picked me up by my ponytail and dragged me to the office and he pushed me against the wall and he was talking and cursing at me."lakeisha says she filed a complaint on the officer at the cedar rapids police station and took her daughter to the hospital.

"i'm hurt - i'm disgusted - everything inside of me - idk what to do."cbs 2 news spoke with the department and school - they would only confirm there was a discipline incident and that hayes filed a complaint without providing further details. details. "what do you hope this officer knows? - that i was scared."lakeisha says the officer eventually approached them outside of school grounds - saying his actions were out of line. line. "he's like yes - can i please apologize to her for cussing at her as well? and i want to apologize to you for being so rude and nasty - which i can forgive but i can't forget." forget." the cedar rapids police department says its professional standards division is thoroughly investigating lakeisha's complaint on the officer. iowa state university police are right now investigating a student death near campus. campus.according to the des moines register, the male student's body was found late last night on union pacific railroad property. investigators say no foul play is suspected.they are not releasing the student's name until they notify his family. a suspect is in custody tonight after a series of sexual assaults reported on the university of iowa campus. campus.cbs 2 news reporter dora miller millerhas continuing coverage right now, live from iowa city. the survey that polled students about their knowledge on sexual misconduct was released just weeks agoa& although this incident was solved quickly, it still serves as part of a learning experience. experience. as a first year student, sexual assaults aren't something you expect to hear

in particular, that's the route that i walk home from work because i work at the sheraton and so that was rather nerve-racking for me." on tuesday, it was on the mind of many students who woke up to the alert of three incidents."i have many friends who have experienced sexual assault and i particularly have a very close friend of mine who was assaulted several years back and the trauma is still very harsh for her." "i've experienced assault in my past, and a lot of female friends that i know have, and males too, because it's not an exclusively female issue." while sexual assaults often go unreported, this incident took a different turn.the suspect was taken into custody within 24 hours."i'm just glad that they have a system to notify students and they're very good at that, sending emails." "overall i'm pleased with how most people on the campus, because it is a more liberal campus and people talk about it more, it's an issue that the university takes seriously.""i'm very appreciative though of the people who stepped up and reported the incident and the bystanders who took the opportunity to intervene and help."students and faculty say

in north liberty - a new population census is nearing completion.the u-s census bureau says the count is about 60 percent done.they will continue their work for several more weeks.city officials estimate the population increased by around four-thousand people in just five years. iowa city residents will soon have another option for their internet provider.the city council voted to allow im-on communications to begin installing equipment to offer service in iowa city.the decision comes after the company spent months researching the potential for expanding into another community. voters saw the smallest prime time debate for the republican candidates for president this election cycle. cycle.cbs 2 news reporter kevin barry has our vote 20-16 coverage. coverage. a little more breathing room on the primetime debate stage -- with chris christie and mike huckabee being relegated to the early debate -- lead to more focused debates on issues. early on -- it was about being against raising the minimum wage.

veterans in one of the most honorable ways possible. of course we're talking about the eastern iowa honor flight.the american legion i have many ww2 veterans, korean war veterans, vietnam veterans that i know personally. and a lot of these folks have been through a lot of stuff. and they very rarely talk about it unless they're with another group of veterans. i wasn't really in combat. i want to let ya know that. i drank a lot of coffee. i was on an aircraft carrier and we were looking for submarines so i was never shot at. i had three squares a day and a clean sheet every night. but i was overseas when the vietnam war started.george you weren't able to go and serve but here you are, knocking on doors, you're beating the drum to keep this program growing in more than six years. absolutely. its become almost my reason for being. because when i walk up to a veteran at

the marine corps memorial, shake his hand, thank him for his service, and he's crying and he says the first people that thanked me for what i did since i came home in 1946.this takes a lot of money to be able to take people who are very deserving of this, but its not a cheap fee to be able to take this trip.each trip is approximately $80,000 and typically what we ask the guardians to pay is their fair-share covers 1/3 of that cost. then 2/3 of that cost are covered by individual donations.you'd be amazed at the number of $50 or $100 donations that come in and builds rather rapidly. once we have the money for the flight, we'll schedule it. our veterans are some of the most selfless individuals that i've ever met. they don't ask for anything. we will get a thank you note from a veteran, he'll have a $100 check in there. says i want another veteran to experience what i've
