terry thanks.risht now, the national weather service says five tornadoes hit the state during last night's severe weather.cbs 2 news is still waiting to find out whether damage in rural iowa county was caused by a sixth toado. tornado.orms ripped throroh a shed and barn near williamsburg.in addtion, the property's owner tells cbs 2 news, a 500 gallon barrel of el was thrown 30 yards.the national weather service willll go out again tomorrow to look at more damage. there was more damage further

view. two year project will yield thousands of high paying high skilled jobs.it will create an unprecedented abuse of land owner's rights, it will present a perpetual threat of catastrophic spills in iowa and it will contribute climate change. change.the iowa utilities board will have the final say - on the project.they already have another hearing on the issue set for next week. in cedar rapids, ofofcials are lookininat revising topsoil standards to prevent runoff and flash flooding.the proposed plans allow developers to select from eight soil management methods. but,they say that could still add more than o o-thousand dollars to the cost of a new home. developers and builders are questioning the polcy saying more economic analysis needs to be done. one of the republican candidates with a lot of momentum is making his way through eastern iowa. new jersey governor chris christie faded from the polls early in the race. cb2 news reporter kevin

barry spoke with him today abououhow he's turning those numbers around. the focus at a townhall meeting in cedar rapids was entitlement reform.christie says it's not an issue that is going to be wiwily popular with vovors -- but that's why he should focus on it. 71-percent of federal spending is now on entitlements and debt service. and if don't talk about that, you can't be a credible leader.he says it'll eventually chip away a trillion dollars from the national debt by limiting who gets social security -- medicare and medicaid -- and delaying when they get it.his reasoning is that people are living longer than they did when these programs were created -- and that people making more than 200-thousand dollars a year in retirement don't need the extra help anyway.but when he get's into the weeds about income and elligiblity -- he admits it doesn't take long before ople's eyes can gloss over... over...you trust them to talk about something that's difficult and unpopular, but that they need to hear. that's the kind of leader i am and the kind of leader i want to be for the country. even if iowans buy into that -- people

and we'll have complete coverage of the week's political news this weekend.be sure to tune into iowa in focus, sundnd morning at 10:30, only on cbs 2. now ten at ten continues with a look at tonight's other stories across the corridor. in cedar rapids tonight, a discussion was held on the knutson building.the 128-year- old structure is one of the oldest commercial buildings on the west side of the river. originally, the city planned to demolish it, but a survey shows it is possible totosave and restore the building.it'll be up to the city council to decide whether they should spend the money to rehab it. leaders are expected to discuss the issue at next week's council meeting. also in cedar rapids, residents will get a first look at renovations being done to the historic mott building. crews started working on the building in september.linn county solicited bids for r e ilding late last year.the county purchased the building in 1995.it was later purchased by hobart historic restoration.

plans call for turning the first floor into office anan retail space, other floors will be turned into apartments. in iowa city, city,a group of more than 200- people gathered at the university of iowa today to discuss heroin overdoses in iowa.each year 20-iowans die after overdosing on the drug. experts tell cbs 2 news, one way to fight increasing addiction is to provide more drug take back options.they say most heroin dealers first got into the drug by abusing perscription opiates. also in iowa city, cbs 2 news has learned the university of iowa is saying yes to johnson county's minimum wage increase. the university says it raised its minimum to 8-20 an hour earlier this month.thth incrcrse means s raise for more than 700 temporary and student employees. coralville is once again collecting unwanted christmas lights.yoy can drop your lights off starting nextxt saturday at any o othe five
