we're following a developing story in cedar rapids. rapids.thanks for joining us for cbs 2 news at noon, i'm kelly d'ambrosio.the linn county sheriff's ofofce is now investigating a murdrd. murder.deputies responded just after midnight this morning to the ced-rel motel, along highway 30, just west of cedar rapids.they found 23-year-old jimmi-jon lee lili, of mount auburn with stab wounds.he later died at a hospital. hospital.now, this man, 47-year-old michael lehman, who deputies say lived at the motel, is charged with first degree murder.he made his first court appearance this morning. morning.cbs 2 news reporter steffi lee was in the courtroom and joins us live. live.good afternoon, steffi. michchl stephen lehman just t appeared in the linn county courthouse - the criminal complaint says this was a

stabbing.this morning in court, the state asasd the judge to set a significant cash only bond because of safety concerns for the public - it's been set for 750 thousand dollars.lehman is also accused of violating his parole, which brings his bond to 1-milllln dollars.line records show he is a registered sex offender - a search on the iowa sex offender registry shows there are 21 sex offenders, including lehman, living at this motel right now. authorities say lint was laying on the floor of his motel room with multiple stab wounds.investigators say they found a knife and blood on lehman's clothes when they arrested him.sheriff brian gardner said lehman had been living at the motel since july. the iowa fraud fighters - are in coralville today.it's a program sponsored by the iowa insurance division to help prevent, combat and report investment fraud.commissioner nick gerhart says con artists are targeting those 60 and older, swindling about seven million americans out of three billion dollars a a year.you can hear more from the fraud fighters on how to protect yourself at a free, public forum at the holiday inn on first avenue in coralville.it will run until two this afternoon. wind turbines popping g across iowa are set to get even taller and harness more energy--thanks to a new engineering method. method.today mid american energy announced they'll install the first concrete wind turbine tower, in the country, in adams county, in western iowa.the utility says the first tower will serve as a prototype for future wind farms. a company in portland, oregon, hopes to make new strides with a new kind of high rise.while many high-rise buildings are made from steel and concrete, a portland company plans to construct a 12-story building out of wood....but this isn't

stunt.lindsay miller wanted to wear a colander on her head for her drivers license picture.she is a pastafarian and a member of the church of the flying spaghetti monster. the massachusetts registery of motor vehicles refused to let her wear a spaghetti strainer in her picture.but she fought it citing the exception for ligiouis head w wr so they let her do it.some suggest that the church's ideology is merely a satirical way of opposing intelligent design and creationism.the church emphatically denies this, saying its beliefs are sincerely heldldand backed by hard science. science. we posted this on our facebook

students at an elementary school in scotland have mastered the subject of fitness.it all appears to be thanks to a daily sson, which teachers attribute to no students being overweight. jonathan vigliotti reports. reports. students at st. ninian's primary school in scotland follow a strict fitness routine.how many laps boys? boy1 - 8!their head teacher elaine wylie is both coach and cheerleader.j - what is the daily mile? e- the daily mile is 15 minutes every day -- the children come out in almost any y weather.rain -- or shine -- they jog -- or walk their

daily mile around the school yard. a few years back wylie noticed her students were out of breath when they took the stairs. so she instituted the new program.we have veryry little obesity. the daily mile started three years ago and its success travelled quickly by word of mouth. today hundreds of schools in the uk have adopted the program.researchers are now running a series of tests to prove the daily mile cuts obesity. if its successful, we'll literally want to roll it out to all schools across the country.even the kids see the benefits.it helps you get fit and it's also time to get out and have some fresh air.and wylie says getting out pays off inside the classroom, too. too. they go back into class focused -- bright eyed. cheery. applecheeked like children should be - and ready to learn.nathan vigliotti.

on average, every american spends nearly 40 hours a month using apps on their smartphones or other mobile devices. devices.that can be a serious drain on your battery.as it turns out some apps need more power than others.for social media, it's snapchat, which uses more energy than facebook. netflix also uses a lot of energy--so do shopping apps like walmart.tech experts y lots of apps eat up battery life even when you're not using them.
