a dubuque man is now facing federal hate crime charges for

say randy mmcalf beat another man because he was black. black.cbs 2 news reporter kevin barry barrywas in the court room this morning when metcalf made his first appearance this morning. morning.ranan metcalf was in an orange jump suit and didn't say anything about the case as was expected for his initial appearance. the complaint filed by the assistant u u attorney says that metcalf beat a black man nearly unconscious during a bar fight - because of his race. the fight was back on january 12th - 2015 - and happened when metcalf started using racial slurs towards a black man and the people he was with at the bar. the complaint says there was one smaller scuffle - more racial l urs - then a muchchbigger fight - that ended with the black man and another woman nearly unconscious. scott baxter with the dubuque police department says this is not very common -but when it

and heavy gun-fire during an hours-long stand-off.one of the suspects who died was a woman who detonated a suicide bomb.in the end - several people were arrested and four police officers were wounded. since sunday - french police have conducted more than 400- searches for suspects in friday's attacks.the french government now says all 129-victims have been identified.french prosecutors are expected to hold a press conference here shortly.when thth happens cbs news may take a special report live. authorities now say nothing threatening was found on two air france flights that were diverted last night. night.the paris-bound flights were diverted to salt lake city and nova scotia after anonymous threats were phoned in.the f-b-i says both planes were searched and no credible threats or explosive devices were found. tonight - the university of iowa studentfor human rights will hold a c cdle light vigil for victims ofofterrorism.on facebook -- the group says it's not only a vigil for the victims of the paris attacks -- but also of victims of

this week in lebanon -- syria and nigeriait starts at 7:30 at hubbard park. the white house says it will not end a program that allows syrian refugees into the u.s. u.s.last night - republicans in congress introduced legislation to alter that program.it would require homeland security to certify refugees are not a security threat and have undergone extensive background checks. president obama has called the bill "offensive" and says lawmakers have nothing to fear about refugees who have fled their homes because of isis. an arraignment has been set for the man arrested in connection to a dangerous bus crash in delaware county. county.monte klink`faces a number of charges, including an o-w-i and serious injury by motor vehicle. vehicle.authorities say on october first - klink didn't yield at an intersection near manchester before his vehicle collided with a west delaware school bus.33 people were taken to t t hospital for minor injuries- - most were children.klink's arraignment will be december ninth. a phone scam has cedar rapids police warning resident

residents.c-r-p-d says people have been getting phphe calls from someone claiming to be with a bank, telling them thier cards have been blocked. the caller then asks for a 16-digit card number to un- block it.police say you ould never give your debit or credit card information over the phone. the city of cedar rapids will talk about the impacts of the "safe c-r" program tonight. tonight.safe c-r was launched two years ago to improve neighborhoods and the neighborhoods and the quality of life for residents.s.an open house will run from five to seven tonight at the african american museum on 12th ave southeast. some iowa lawmakers are in washington today fighting against changes to the state's medicaid program. program.on januaryryfirst - governor branstad wants the program to transition from state-run to privately-run.he believes this will save the state money, and benefit tients.but senate democrats say those plans are disorganized and will actually hurt iowans. no one should be left without care.everyone should know who they need to go to for care. .

shooting have been identified. the officers are mike ringgenberg and dustin schwarze.investigagars ay ey were responding to a domestic assault over the weekend when they shot jamar clark in the head, killing him. some people claim clark was handcuffed when he was shot. his death has prompted protests in n the twin cities over the past three days.many demonstrators want authorities to release police video of the shooting - which authorities say won't happen until an investigation is complete. a man is dead after an early morning shoototg with police in south florida. florida.officials say officers were trying to stop a man who broke the windshield of a patrol car.the officers first tried to stun the suspect before opening fire and killing him.one of the officers was taken to the hospital.the s soting is still under investigation. the man accused of starting a fire during the baltimore riots will serve four years in prison.federal prosecutors say taymon carter was caught on video trying to open a c-v-s store's safe before setting the building on fire.in
