pilots tried to land in their parachutes after they ejected from the plane.a rebel group says that rebels shot one of the pilots, the fate of the second pilot is not known. russia says the plane was on a bombing mission in syria and was over syrian territory the whole time.officials in moscow insist the plane did not violate turkish airspace.this is a developing story overnight -- we'll bring you the latest information this morning as it becomes available. french president francois hollande will be in the united states today -- pushing for an international coalition to fight isis terrorists. terrorists.the terror group claimed responsibility for the paris attacks that left 130 people dead.france has been stepping up its airstrikes against isis in syria ever since.and hollande wants the u-s to do the same.president obama said the country will intensify its current strategy but also admitted it would be a mistake to send a large number of troops to the unstable region. meanwhile back in france, police say an explosive vest was found in a suburb on the

southern edge of paris.it was the same type of explosive used in the paris attacks, and was found by a street cleaner in a pile of rubble.the vest was found in the same area where the cell phone of salah abdeslam was traced to shortly after the attacks. in brussels, the alert for a potential attack remains at its highest possible level this morning. morning.but schools and the subway system will start to re- open tomorrow.the belgian prime minister urged citizens to stay calm even after word of an imminent terror threat. the captial city will stay on high alert at least until next monday. the u.s. state department issued a worldwide travel alert for americans.they say terror groups like isis -- al qaeda and boko haram "continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions."the alert does not ask americans to avoid travel but just urges them to be vigilant -- especially in public places or when using mass transit. this is the first worldwide travel alert since december 2014 -- and it'll last until february 24th. cbs 2 news wants to know if

you think the government should be accountable if terrorists enter the country through refugee re-settlement programs? so far -- 89 percent are saying yes -- 11 percent are saying no.only a few hours left to cast your vote -- you can do so on our twitter page, cbs 2 iowa. in iowa city -- the university of iowa is looking to change the name of its student information systems becuase of its acronym -- which is isis. this comes a week after the university of arkansas made a similar move.u-i officials are looking into how much the name change would cost and they hope to have estimates and a decision soon. new this morning, five people were shot late last night in minneapolis, where a black lives matter protest has been going on for around a week.all five victims are expected to survive. protesters have been demostrating the death of jamar clark, who was shot by police earlier this month. authorities say they don't know what caused the shooting. witnesses at the scene say the shooters were white supremacists, who fired six shots into a crowd of protesters. an update to a des moines

double homicide. homicide.police are now saying a mother and her 16 year-old daughter were both killed sunday night.47-year-old barney fraaken is in custody at a des moines area hospital. he's the husband and the father of both victims.fraaken is recovering from self- inflicted injuries.authorities say the motive appears to be related to a domestic conflict. iowa regulators are now transferring money that they withheld for months from university research centers. centers.that comes after critics say the iowa utilities board was violating the law by hanging on to more than 5 million dollars.the two research centers were studying alternative energy and global warming.the board had previously said it wouldn't transfer the money until the centers answered questions about how previous funding has been spent. if you got a parking ticket in cedar rapids -- you could use it to help someone in need. need.for the next month -- park cedar rapids is accepting donations for local homeless shelters and family service centers.in return -- certain outstanding citations will be forgiven.all donations will benefit horizons -- waypoint and the willis dady shelter.

for decades, iowa city has educated thousands of students with just two high schools. schools.but that will soon change and last night the iowa city community school district held their first informational meeting about the third school being built right now.the district broke ground on liberty high school in may. students will attend the first classes there in fall, 2017. there in fall, 2017.district officials say a third high school means more opportunities in classes, athletic teams and extracurricular activities. there are plans to hold more informational meetings in the near future. it's after the break... break...how the traffic you're sure to hit this holiday season has changed over time.

first forecast we a man is donating his kidney to a stranger after accidentaly finding her need on craigslist. nina saria has had kidney failure for a year and a half. glenn calderbank was looking for construction materials when nina's ad popped up asking for someone to donate their kidney. kidney.glenn said he knew the misplaced ad was misplaced by his late wife jessica, she died of kidney failure in 2011. he said his wife is his angel and shes showed him that ad so he could help safe nina's life. after connecting, it was even more stunning to find out he was a match for nina.
