was gunned down@june 12th at an information desk. desk.22-year-old alexander zak is charged with first degree murder in her death. warrants show kozak told officers farrington had texted him, breaking off their relationship. he says he snapped, went to his home in north liberty to get a gun and shoot her. the newly unsealed warrants show police want to look through the phone records of farrington, kozak and his wife. police say the informatatn may contain messages related to what happened that night as well as a possible motive.kozak's trial begins in april in story county. also new tonight, tonight,the 14-year-old accused of killing aaron richardson is no longer charged with murder. court documents filed today show robert humbles now faces voluntary manslaughter in the september sixth ooting death of the 15-year-old. authorities say humbles shot richardson in the 1600 block of park avenue. humbles was initially charged with first degree murder.his next court

re people die from drug overdose than guns and car crashes each year in the united states, according to experts. here at home, local agencies are focusing on combatting prescription drug use by placing drop boxes in their lobby. cbs 2 news reporter marissa scott shares why one former addict says the dropboxes are a great idea in theory.marissa? so far this year, the cedar rapids police department responded to 60 overdoses and ten deaths because of heroin or prescription drug abuse. it's an issue they want to stop. stop. "you just think that we would be able to quit, but of course, it's very hard."one former addict, who wishes to remain anonymous, says it all starard as a teen, when he started trying alcohol and pot..... pot..... "once you put it into your system, you can't take it out."before his twenties, he was already addicted to heroin and cocaine. "i would try to block out the situation. the holidays would

come and i would start crying because i couldn't see my kids and there's nothing i could do to fix it but all i could do was blot it out with drugs and alcohol.he says it took years of being fired from his jobs, losing his family, and changing his actions, before he realized what was most important in life. life. "if you keep doing the same thing over and oveve again, you're going to get the same result or worse."he has been sober for several years now, and has re-established his relationship with his kids.....but like many addicts, it all starts at a young age. age. "since 2010-2013 overdose deaths have increased by 85 percent."eastern iowa agencies are joining forces by placing drop boxes at police stations where people can get rid of expired or unwanted prescription drugs before they get in the hands of someone else. too many people abuse prescription drugs."waterloo, coralville, university heights and the johnson county sheriff's office will have drop boxes in their lobby's now. dubuque and black hawk counties will be next. next. two/thirds of the overdose deaths have occurred in
