the fallout continues from wednesday's tragic shooting in san bernardino, california, that left 14 people dead. dead.investigators found evidence from the home of shooting suspects syed farook

a stockpile of weapons and ammunition.they also found bombs the two were building, using items like christmas tree lights and smokeless gunpowder.after the massacre, the two were killed in a shootout with police. authorities are now searching for a man who bought two rifles used in the attack. attack.investigators have said those rifles and two pistols were all bought legally more than three years ago.farook bought the pistols, but a man police wont identify purchased the rifles.but right now it's unknown whether the man gave farook the rifles, or if they were stolen. as the f-b-i works to piece together a possible motive...we're learning more about the 14 people who lost their lives.paul vercammen reports. the 14 victims of wednesday's shooting in san bernardino... each a story of a life lived... and lost.robert adams... a devoted father to a 20-month-old baby girl... who loved his job as an environmental health

here.johnson county emergency management officials say they've been looking over what they know from the shooting. they say attacks like that one influence future training and exercise decisions and how grant money is spent. 00:17:54 "if people are aware of their surroundings and they see something, say something to law enforcement sometimes you can head these things off with a pass, but when they're in those situations and things develop rapidly, its like knowing what to do when the fire alarm goes off or the tornado sirens go off. you need to know how to respond to that." that."the johnson county e-m-a says they have different levels of training you or your workplace can participate in. the sheriffs office also says training for law enforcement is happening more frequently. cbs 2 news also spoke with linn county sheriff brian gardner about the shooting. shooting.he tells us his department provides training for active shooter situations not only for its staff, but several businesses as well. well.sheriff gardner also says deputies and swat teams train together for mass shooting situations.

after four fifth graders, and a high school student in new jersey were detained in a bomb plot. police say the students were planning to set off a device during a field trip to clifton high school this past wednesday.but it would not have gone off because it didn't actually have any explosives in it.parents were notified of the plot yesterday through an automated phone call from the school district that said there was no danger. that message has some saying school officials are not taking the situation as seriously as they should. "that's our children, our children, our grandchildren in that school. are you for real? and it's no big deal? it is a big deal, especially what's going on in the world today. how can it not be a big deal?" deal?"all five students have since been released to their parents.they are all now suspended from school. back here at home, authorities in west liberty are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction. they got the call around 5:30 wednesday night. they say an

street and columbus when a man in a white van drove up and told him to get in. if you know anything about this report, please call the west liberty police department. testimony resumes this morning in the trial for edward cusic. cusic.he's the man accused of killing his mother in cedar rapids mother in cedar rapids three years ago.on thursday - the prosecution wrapped its case and the defense called their first witness.cusic's brother told jurors the defendant was taking medication after suffering several concussions in high school and work injuries.a psychologist also took the stand to discuss cusic's mental state at the time of the murder. i found that edward cusis does in deed have several psychiatric diagnosis, and these involved in having what would be called a neurocognitiv e imparament. imparament.i also found him to have depression. i also found him to have a substance abuse disorder.

millions of millions of people across the country will spend the holidays behind bars.and a portion of those inmates, are parents.emily maher explains how one jail in kentucky is hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for them and their families. families. for many, the holidays are about spending time with family and exchanging gifts. but, here at the hardin county

this most recent mass shooting has politicians once again bringing gun control legislation to the table. table.the senate voted against expanding background checks for all gun purchases online and at gun shows.currently the checks are only required for licensed gun dealers.the vote failed 50-to-47 and is the same proposal the senate rejected in the months after the sandy hook killings in 20-12. a county sheriff in new york state is making headlines by urging the residents in his area to arm themselves. themselves.sheriff paul van blarcum put the post on facebook in response to the san bernardino massacre.the post has more than 20-thousand shares.he reminded active duty and retired police officers to carry a weapon whenever they leave their house.van blarcum also urged people to take advantage of their right to carry a firearm and says everyone must be prepared to act. "be responsible, you're comfortable with your weapon,

send more details in regards to refunds, and what they plan to do on saturday at a later time. congress has overwhelmingly passed a 5-year 305-billion dollar bill that aims to fix the nation's aging highways.it now heads to the desk of president barack obama.the bill will allow state and local governments to plan for major-long term projects, but it doesn't include as much money or last as long as the president would have liked. lawmakers in washington also are making changes to no child left behind.the house voted yesterday to limit the federal government's control over education. while lawmakers did chose to keep annual testing in place, they said the states should have the authority to decide how student performance is used. the bill now heads to the senate where it is expected to pass. the iowa hawkeyes are getting ready for their biggest game in decades.fans are just beginning to make the trek to indianapolis for tomorrow's big ten championship game against michigan state.

here's a look at some of eastern iowa's top stories -- on this morning... a new development in cedar rapids likely has at least two more tenants on the way.a grocery store and an auto repair center may be coming to water rock place on blairs ferry road, which is near the planned northtowne market. both those developments also will receive tif or tax increment financing incentives from the city.early plans for the water rock place include a three-story mixed-use building and a two-story restaurant. the iowa republican party now has all of its precinct locations for the presidential caucuses.the party says there will be nearly 17-hundred locations through out the state on february first.they will also have three regional offices to help organize.right

take effect for this up-coming spring semester.the board decided to freeze it there for the 20-16 , 20-17 school year. several eastern iowa colleges are being recognized for their online education programs. the university of northern iowa, the university of iowa and mount mercy university are listed among the top five schools in iowa for online education, according to online colleges dot net. the dean of adult programs at mount mercy tells cbs 2 news their online courses offer more opportunity for non-traditional students. he says there are a lot of benefits for online students, from saving cost on tuition, to having that flexible schedule. 04.16.40.02 we're really excited. the programs only been around for about a year and a half. we have over 100 students already, and it just continues to climb, and we know that there are even better things in the future. 04.16.49.27 mount mercy's online courses are available year- round. the deadline to sign up for the next round of courses,
