also in eastern iowa today is former maryland governor and democratic presidential candidate martin o'malley.he's hosting an hour-long event in vinton starting at 3-30 to talk about new leadership and rebuilding the american dream. at the capitol -- there are new efforts to restore a law that gives givesfirst responders of the 9-11 terror attacks health benefits.the zadroga act expired last month but has enough funding to last anohter year.the legislation gives medical monitoring and treatment for those first responders.senators chuck schumer and kirsten gillibrand rallied for the bill on sunday. lawmakers want to renew the law before congress is out of session this week -- but it has been blocked by republican leadership in both the senate and the house. a day which will live in infamy.those are the famous words president franklen roosevelt spoke 74 years ago. ago.today marks pearl harbor remembrance day.more than 24- hundred americans were killed in the surprise attack.

the iowa hawkeyes were inches away from adding a big ten championship to their list of achievements in this historic season. season.even after coming up short -- hawk fans are smelling the roses.iowa was selected to their first rose bowl in 25 years.coach kirk ferentz said this news is good medicine for his team that just missed a shot at the college football playoff.the hawks play stanford on new years day. and loyal fans didn't waste any time making arrangements to get to california. california.one cedar rapids travel agency -- destinations unlimited -- opened its doors as soon as the announcement was made sunday.they're offering packages with direct flights out of cedar rapids -- des moines and the quad cities. owner duane jasper says their goal is to make things simple. "there's a bus that'll be
