the record amount of rain over the last few days has caused these streets to flood.and city officials have made the decision to close them. a reported threat has closed down all schools in the los angeles unified school district. district.the threat involved back-packs and packages left at a number of campuses. authorities have not specified the threat but early reports indicated it was a bomb threat called in to a school board member.officials are now planning search operations at all of the more than 900 schools in the l-a-u school district.this comes just two weeks after the mass shooting in nearby san bernardino.that attack has officials taking every precaution possible. unified school district is the second largest school district in the entire country, with more than 700-thousand students. bruce harreld is apologizing to a u-i employee for a comment he recently made. made.during a meeting last week, the new u-i president said instructors who aren't ready to teach their classes should be shot.in a statement, harreld called the remark "unfortunate" and "off the cuff."he also said he didn't mean to offend anyone or imply support for gun violence. harreld claims he had used the comment before with out any complaints. a man is now charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of a waterloo woman. woman.michelle key was found dead at a house in hampton sunday night.police say they first went to the house on a report of a suicidal person. but after finding key's body and looking around the house, they felt foul play was involved. involved.key's boyfriend, ronald rand, has been charged with her murder. we now know it was a corridor woman found lying in the street near the i-s-u campus. campus.police believe

plant.45 more workers will be given the pink slip effective january 18th.those employees will join neary 600 others who have been laid off at the waterloo facility in the past 18 months.this comes as deere continues to see its stock prices fall as more farmers spending. iowa's farmland values have dropped four-percent this year, according to an i-s-u survey.the state-wide average has fallen to 76-hundred dollars an acre.this makes two years in a row farmland values have gone down.it follows 20- 13's record breaking year when values were as high as 87-hundred dollars an acre. we're still waiting for more details on a government wide spending bill that would extend a number of tax breaks. breaks.negotiators from the white house and congress are closing in on the one- point-one trillion dollar deal. house speaker paul ryan said the bills would contain victories for both parties.a vote on the bills could come as early as the end of the week. today is the last day to enroll for federal health care

astronaut tim peake made history today when he took off from a launchpad in kazakhstan. he's on his way tothe international space station where he will spend six months orbiting the earth.peak will be the first british astronaut to join the i-s-s crew, and the first "official" british astronaut in space.there have been other british-born astronauts, but they either held u.s. citizenship or were privately funded.
